John J. Kane Jr., age 64, of Stratford, beloved husband of Joyce Thurkettle Kane, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014 at West Haven VA Medical Center. John, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Viet Nam War, was born in Bridgeport to the late John and Ruth (Muzzreall) Kane Sr., and has been a life long area resident. He was a retired machinist for Sikorsky Aircraft, and has worked part time for over thirty years, as a medical transcriptionist, for Neurological Associates of Stratford. John was an active member of VFW Post 9460, and was currently serving as Senior Vice Commander; he also was a member of the National Federation of the Blind and its Connecticut affiliate. He enjoyed reading Science Fiction Novels in his spare time. John was a devoted husband for forty-two years to his beloved wife Joyce, and has been "her eyes" for the last sixteen. Survivors in addition to his wife, include his devoted children, John C. Kane of Waterbury, Michael S. Kane and his wife Elizabeth of Stratford, and Katie Rack and her husband Michael of New Milford, 4 cherished grandchildren, Bryana, Makayla, Marissa, and Xander, a sister Jean Brown, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was pre-deceased by his sisters Mary Nowack, and Anne Grimes. Funeral services will take place on Friday, April 4th at 11 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, with Rev. Koonae Lee, officiating. Military honors will immediately follow. Interment will be private.
