Age 91. Albina Pauline Filanowski Backiel Smith Duffy passed away peacefully in her bed at Park House Rehabilitation & Nursing Home in Royersford, PA. Albina was born in 1926 to John and Pauline Filanowski in St. Clair, PA. She was then adopted by the Backiel family. Married Richard C. Smith in June 1946. Then married Harry Duffy in 1974, whom she loved so dearly and who preceded her in death in 1980.
Albina is survived by three children, Ellen Fagan of E. Hartford, CT, Richard C. Smith, Jr. of Stratford, CT and Lorraine Smith-Gilbert of Phoenixville, PA; grandchildren, Peter Fagan and wife Trish Oak, Amanda Fagan Piedmont and husband Tom Piedmont, Ryan Smith and Kimberly Rosenbaum; and four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Natalie, Mason and Avery Rosenbaum. Albina was the third youngest of eleven children and is also survived by her youngest brother, Anthony Filanowski in Massachusetts. Albina has so many friends they are too numerous to mention here.
Albina led a full and busy life. She took care of her family faithfully and also worked at Bullard's, Avco Lycoming and State Isthmian Marine Lines. She retired when she married Harry and they had a lot of fun together. As Harry used to say when they got married: "I just wanted to dance!" So … dance Albina and Harry among the stars for all eternity.
Visitation will be at Edmund W. Dougiello Funeral Home, 36 S. Pine Creek Road, Fairfield, CT on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow immediately thereafter at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's organization of your choice. Rest in Peace Albina … Rest!
