Joan Pfann Obituary

PFANN Joan Widerman Pfann, age 80, beloved wife of John Pfann, of Walling-ford, formerly of Fairfield and Shelton, passed away peacefully in her home on September 19, 2010. In addition to her devoted husband of 55 years, Jack, her memory will be embraced by her family including two children, Steve Pfann, and his wife, Bonnie, of Fairfield, Kathy Sugar, and her husband, Mark, of Stonington; four grandchildren, Stefanie and Eric Pfann, Greg and Emma Sugar; one brother, Bill Widerman, and his wife, Phyllis, of Cherry Hill, NJ; one aunt, Marge Davis, of NJ; several nieces and nephews. Raised in Haddenfield, NJ, she was a graduate of Centenary College. Joan was a resident of Fairfield for 26 years before moving to Shelton, and more recently to Wallingford. Joan loved her family, friends, and community. She led by example as seen throughout her life of caregiving and voluntarism. At home, she loved and supported her husband and children, also tenderly caring for her late mother-in-law, Emma Pfann in her later years of life. Joan was a faithful member of Greenfield Hill Congregational Church (GHCC), serving as a past chairperson for the Board of Deaconesses, and the Parsonage Committee, as well as many other capacities of the Woman's Guild Board, the GHCC Minister Search Committee, the Women's Executive Board, and the Annual Dogwood Festival Committee. As a representative of GHCC, she was instrumental in developing helpful programs and entertainment activities for the residents of Parish Court senior housing complex. Additional community involvement included Joan's efforts in fundraising to establish the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center in town during the 1980's. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, September 25th, at 11am in the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church. All other services will be private. Contributions in her name may be directed to: The GHCC Memorial Fund, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield, CT 06824. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home of Fairfield Center. For travel directions, or to sign her online guest register, please visit www.LeskoPolkeFuneralHome.com

Jack and family,
Ernie and I were deeply sadden by the news of cousin Joan's passing. She was a wonderful person and will long be remembered for her compassion and love for all who were dear to her. I am sure that u and the family will miss her but i must say that had she not loved and u not loved that there would be no saddness. Our sympathy is with u all and may the strength that comes from God sustain u at this difficult time.
All our love,
Sue, Ernie, Dan, Tim and families
