Edmund Dailey Obituary

Dailey, Edmund F.
Edmund Francis Dailey, 85 years old, husband of Nancy Carroll died on June 7th. Born and raised in Bridgeport, Eddie graduated from Fairfield College Preparatory School, having been a member of the school's first Freshman class. He matriculated at St. Bonaventure College and Fairfield University before being inducted into the United States Army. He served thirteen months in Korea, earning two battlefield promotions. A gifted athlete, Eddie starred in three sports at Prep, and played basketball for St. Bonaventure and Fairfield University. He continued to enjoy golf and swimming until his death. Upon returning to civilian life (happily), Eddie established a small business - Dailey's Flower Shop, this one man enterprise grew to be one of the most successful flower shops in Fairfield County. Among his affiliations, he served two terms as president of the Bridgeport Florist Association, an officer of the Connecticut Florist association, District representative for the FTD, was a member of the Hibernians, was a Knight of Columbus, a member of the Algonquin Club and the Patterson Club. He served on the Board of Directors for Fairfield Prep and The Lafayette Bank and Trust Company and a proud charter member of the Latin Scholars. He was faithful to his religion, proud to be an American and loyal to his friends, but first, last and always, he was a family man. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was also a very sharp dresser and loved a good laugh. In addition to his wife of sixty years he is survived by his daughter Diane Auray, and her husband Donald, his sons, Michael, Timothy, and his wife Breda, Barry, Matthew, and his wife Patricia; and twelve remarkable grandchildren - John and Colin; Kevin, Brian and Scott; Will, Jack and Elizabeth; Christopher, Patricia and Charlie; and Megan. And, his sister, Mary Lou Connelly. He was predeceased by his parents J. Raymond and Madeline, and his brothers Joseph and Arthur. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends and family may call Monday from 3-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
