Ellen L. (Buggie) Gomperts, 96 of Dunedin, Florida beloved mother of Barbara Contorno, and Patricia Pierce, went to be with the Lord on December 21, 2014.
Ellen was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on April 9, 1918 to Ellen and George Gomperts. She was a WW II airplane assembly line worker in Stratford, Connecticut while her husband served in the United States Navy aboard a battleship in the Pacific. Ellen eventually retired in 1978 from the Burndy Corp. Prior to moving to Dunedin in 1992 Ellen was a Eucharistic minister at Saint Ann Catholic Church and served as Sergeant at Arms in the SS Norden Club, both in the Black Rock Section of Bridgeport.
After moving to Florida Ellen remained very active in her Catholic faith. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes "Circle of Joy" prayer group and a volunteer at Saint Vincent de Paul Pantry at Our Lady of Lourdes. She was also a volunteer at Pinellas Hope of Catholic Charities in Saint Petersburg, FL. There she helped serve and feed the homeless.
Ellen will be missed for her wonderful sense of humor, boundless energy, her feisty personality and extraordinary devotion to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother George Gomperts Jr., husband Richard Buggie, daughter Margaret Burzynski, granddaughter Linda Besciglia, and great granddaughter Sheylynn Besciglia.
In addition to her daughters Ellen is survived by seven grandchildren; Ted Rappa, Deborah Cosme, Ann Marie Rappa Parrinello, Richard Burzynski, Michael Piscitelli, Jill Ann Atwood and Dina Chairs.
Thirteen great-grandchildren Bridget and Kathleen Rappa; Nina Cosme; Richard and Harley Burzynski; Joseph Besciglia; Michael Jr. and Julianna Piscitelli; Brandon, Christopher, Nicholas and Haley Atwood; Steven Greenlee and six great-great-grandchildren Briley Besciglia; David and Marley Burzynski, Emma, Anna and Raelyn Greenlee.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday Jan. 17th, 11:00 AM at the Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home 2583 Sunset Point Road Clearwater FL., In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice or Pinellas Hope. To leave an online condolence visit www.sylvanabbey.com.
