LOUISE RICH Obituary

Louise Kathryn Rich, 94, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center, DeKalb.
Born May 16, 1917, in the Lighthouse Church Community near Oregon, the third daughter of the Rev. Fred K. and Katie (Collins) Rich, she graduated from Jennings Seminary, Aurora; Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts; and Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury (Vt.) College, with a Master of Arts.
Louise taught English and Latin courses for 44 years in grades 8-13 in Iowa and Illinois; she was employed by Hinsdale Township High School District 86 for 37 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, DeKalb; AAUW, AARP and IEA-NRTA; a volunteer crafter at Graue Mill and Museum, Oak Brook; and a volunteer at Oak Crest, where she lived since 1999.
Louise enjoyed family, children, people, books, plays, crafts, music, humor, nature and travel. Among her travels, she especially enjoyed visiting Featherstone Castle in Northumberland, England, and special gardens in Europe and the U.S., as well as other special places. Louise especially enjoyed writing short stories and poetry; her first writing was published when she was still in grade school.
She is survived by nephews and nieces, Ronald (Beverly) Mullins of Wisconsin/Florida, Anita Mullins of Burlingame, Calif., Dennis Mullins of Sycamore, Gerald (Barbara) Mullins of Atlanta, Ga., and William (Bonnie) Mullins of Shabbona; six great-nieces and -nephews; and several great-great-nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and their husbands, Mary Helen and Loren Mullins and Phyllis Eileen and Clifford Mullins; a niece, Shirley Kay (Mullins) Butts and Kay's husband, Jerry Butts.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Oak Crest Memorial Chapel, DeKalb. Burial will follow at Naperville City Cemetery, Naperville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Louise K. Rich Memorial Fund, in care of Anderson Funeral Home Ltd., P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115.

Louise was a special treat as a teacher and a friend at Hinsdale Central High School. A true delight was to sit next to her at gatherings and enjoy her impish sense of humor.

I was a CAN at oakcrest, I took care of Louise for the few years I was there. Louise was a very speacial women,she was such full of life anytime I saw her she was walking around getting exersise. I was also there when her sister past, she was so loving to her. Its just nice to know that they are together again in heaven. Very sorry for your loss and hope all the fond memories remain in your heart god bless.

We are so sorry for your loss. We lived at 112 Woodstock for 10 years and had Sarahanne, our first daughter there. She was very kind to Sarahanne. Sarahanne enjoyed watching Louise gardening. She was a very intelligent and special lady.
