BETTY MASCAL-SENTENEY Obituary

Betty L. Mascal-Senteney, 85, of DeKalb, Ill., died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at the DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center in DeKalb.

Born Nov. 16, 1926, in Huntington, W.Va., she was the daughter of Arthur Franklin Simmons and Ethel Shepherd Simmons.

Betty graduated from Kankakee High School in the class of 1944. She moved to DeKalb and worked for Drs. Bates and Boardman as a dental assistant. Betty was married to Edwin F. Mascal on Dec. 20, 1947, in the home Dr. Bates in DeKalb. They started Mascal Electric which Betty continued to own after Ed's death in 1971. Betty married George W. Senteney in June 1981 in the First United Methodist Church in DeKalb; he died Nov. 5, 2006.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in DeKalb, Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority, Haish School PTA and had a long involvement with the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts. She worked for many community organizations but especially loved the "County Store" where she volunteered until recently. Betty was an avid gardener, bird watcher and golfer. She loved music, theater and traveling. Betty always said her greatest accomplishment in life was her seven children.

Survivors include children Kathy (James) Kachel of Bagley, Wis., Patrick (Lorraine) Mascal of Thomasville, James (Elizabeth) Mascal of Mt. Carroll, Michael (Chere') Mascal of Sycamore, Daniel (Robin Lillie) Mascal of Iowa City, Iowa, Casey (Becky) Mascal of DeKalb and Matthew (Cindy) Mascal of Bay City, Mich.; grandchildren Collin (Dana) Kachel, Meredith Kachel, Matthew and Margaret Mascal, Heather (Jay) Morgan, Sean Mascal, Jack (Josie) Isleib, Ian and Kate Mascal, Ryan and Audrey Mascal, Carley Mascal, Marcus Mascal and Evan Martek; great-grandchildren Lucien Kachel, Joshua Bailey-Mascal, Delaney Elliott and Lilly Mascal; brother, Charles Simmons of Ashland, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Edwin Mascal and George Senteney; brother, John Simmons; and granddaughter, Allison Kachel.

Funeral service will be held at 11 am. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, in the First United Methodist Church in DeKalb with pastor Brian Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Barb City Manor or the DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center.
