Olivia Enriquez Obituary

Olivia Hernandez Enriquez was born on September 18, 1924 in a little house on Beryl and Elena in the heart of Redondo Beach. During World War II, Olivia joined the wartime effort and became a "Rosie the Riveter". In 1945, Olivia eloped with the love of her life Ernest H. Enriquez, who at the time was stationed in San Francisco with the US Navy. After a few months they returned to Redondo Beach and started a family. In 1956, they moved to Irena, where Olivia passed away on June 10, 2011. For years, the Enriquez home was host to many family functions with Christmas Eve tamales being Olivia's specialty. She welcomed family, friends and neighbors to her Christmas open house. Along with being wife and mother, she also managed to work for Rockwell International as an assembler for 33 years. After retiring in 1985, she kept busy by babysitting on Sundays, practicing her civic duty by working at her local polling place and her favorite past time jury duty, as she loved to people watch! Olivia traveled extensively with her husband Ernie visiting many countries and states. She found Las Vegas to be the most entertaining. She was very active in the Redondo Senior Center and enjoyed playing cards, knitting, watching sports, and spending time with her family. Olivia was a beautiful person, inside and out, not a mean bone in her body, which is why she will be missed tremendously and thought of daily! We love you GG! Olivia is preceded in death by her parents, Maria and Ignacio Hernandez; husband, Ernest H. Enriquez; brother, Sig; sisters, Grace and Helen. She is survived by daughters, Cecilia Esparza and Cathy (Joe) Munoz; and son, Ernest L. Enriquez; grandchildren, Michelle Luhrsen (Joseph), David Esparza (Erma), Misty Enriquez-Cortez (Joel) and Camille Lytle (Phillip); great-grandchildren, Monet, Joseph, Jordan, Gerardo, Luca, Anthony and Evan; sisters, Marylou Ordaz (Rom) and Natalie Herrera; and many nieces and nephews. Rosary vigil services will be Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 7:00 pm and funeral services will be Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 11:00 am at Green Hills Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes. May remembering all of the good times along with knowing that God is a God "of all comfort" (2 Cor. 1:3,4) help.

How saddened we were to learn about Olivia. Oliva was loved by so many and she will be dearly missed. Norma and I remember the parties we use to go to. I sure will miss Gee Whiz, and all the good times we had. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.

Ernie, So sorry to read about your mom passing away. I remember in January when we saw you at the mini reunion how fondly you spoke of your mom and how you along with your family were all taking care of her and the love you all had for her. May she rest in peace now beside your dad and i'm sure she left this world a much better place with the love she had for her family. You were a great son to her and she knows how much you all loved here.
