Richard Kovacs Obituary

Richard "Rick" Kovacs
Richard "Rick" Kovacs born October 31, 1953 passed peacefully in his sleep the evening of January 17th. Raised in Palos Verdes, Rick's residence grew to encompass the greater Southwestern coast and desert skies, highways, trails and campgrounds. He spent much of his time dirt biking, motorcycle racing, and flying out of Torrance Airport. As owner of Kovacs Paper Company, started by his father in 1964, he spent 40 years designing and supplying custom packaging for the South Bay. Known by many as a big guy with big heart, Rick will be greatly missed by friends and family. He is survived by his mother, Merlene Moss; brothers, James Johnson, William and Gary Kovacs; and children, Kristin and Garrett Kovacs. Come celebrate a life lived at full throttle at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA on Friday, January 31st at 3pm, followed by a reception at the San Pedro Elks Lodge. I go back with Richard to the days of Southetn Utah State College. Visited his home once and met many of his friends. Did meet his dad before his passing. I´m so sorry to read this obituary. May he RIP.

I just heard the sad news today. I'm about 6 years younger than Rick and rode with him 40 years ago in the "rock quarry" and used to stop by his house on my paper route. Rick was one of the big guys I looked up to and was always nice to me as a kid. Later on bout boxes from him and in more recent times would enjoy a conversation reminiscing about the good old days. He will be missed.

Just learned of this sad news of Ricks passing. We used to live in Southern California - went on many dirt bike and camping trips with this great man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his children and family. RIP dear friend.

We knew Rick since he was a little boy living on Diamonte Lane. He babysat our daughters and had so much spirit. As the years went by, he would still pop in to say hi, even as recent as just a few years ago. Rick always was kind and had a big heart. We will miss him. Our thoughts are with his family. I knew Rick for 10 years or more and was blessed to do business with him from my motorcycle shop as well as tire distribution business located in Torrance. Rick was always happy and very pleasant to be around. He also would go to great lengths to help others out. May God Speed Rick, you will be sorely missed. Dennis Smith
