Betty Drew Obituary

Betty Drew, a beloved "Mom", "Grandma", "G-Ma", "Aunt Betty" passed away December 5, 2010 after a long battle with congestive heart failure. She was born February 27, 1927 in Highland, CA to Jessie Brotton and Lizzie Ellis. She spent part of her childhood in Phoenix, AZ, moving to San Pedro as a teenager. She married Thomas H. Drew in 1946, settling in Redondo Beach to become a homemaker and mother. Her willingness to listen, generous nature, great sense of humor and artistry will be sorely missed. Crafts, from cake decorating to knit and crochet, were her artistic outlet. Afghans and slippers, stuffed animals, baby blankets and booties would magically appear from her fingertips, her hands were seldom idle. She spent many hours at soccer and softball games, always cheering on her granddaughters and questioning the ref's abilities. She was a survivor and kept a positive attitude through the many trials in her life. Her last few weeks were spent preparing for a move to Washington state to live with her granddaughter, Alina, son-in-law, Jon and her adoring "Tootie", unfortunately her illness precluded the move but didn't stop her delighted anticipation. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy; and brothers, Billy and Bobby. She is survived by her son, Frank (Bobbie) of Janesville, WI; and daughter, Melinda (Rick) of Redondo Beach; her grandchildren, Alina Anderson (Jon), Kelsie Weber, Carissa Weber, Dan Drew, Tom Drew (Kelly), and Erika Drew; great-grandchildren Olivia ("Tootie") Anderson, Kasey Drew-DeGarmo, Joel Drew and Laci Drew; brother, Jim Brotton (Sue); and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to son-in-law, Rick, nephew, Donnie, loving friends, Phyllis, Sonny, Ray, Debra, and Albert. Please join the family to share memories of Betty on Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 1-4 at her home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to your local Salvation Army or the Little Company of Mary Foundation. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits. Mrs Drew,
You were the best most loyal Team Mom at Central Redondo Little League in 1956, the year we won the Pennant. You and your Husband, Tom were my favorite. Rest in Peace Mrs. Drew.
