Charles Liedtke Obituary

June 12, 1936 - December 5, 2010

Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dedicated firefighter, Charles "Chuck" Liedtke passed away Sunday, December 5, at his home in Redondo Beach, CA, surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Chuck was 74 years old. Chuck was born on June 12, 1936 in Moline, IL to parents Bessie and William Liedtke. After moving to California in 1948, Chuck served his country in the Army National Guard before starting a family. He became a Culver City fireman in 1963, promoting through the ranks to assistant fire chief, loving every minute of his job until retirement in 1991. He married the love of his life, Andrea Ellen Emerson, in 1978. He dedicated his life to the Lord and was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Chuck is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Andrea; sons, Cal and Scott Liedtke; and daughters, Lesley Cox, Shirley Emerson, and Cari (Liedtke) Coates. He is also survived by his sister, Darlene Schultz of Moline, IL. Chuck's indomitable spirit and passion for life and family will live on in the hearts of his 11 grandchildren, Angela, Collin, Amanda, Casey, Adam, Jessica, Max, Caitlin, Claire and Suhana; as well as two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Caleb. A memorial service and celebration of Chuck's life is to be held 11:00 am on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church , 301 Ave. D, Redondo Beach, CA 90277. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to The Lance Armstrong Foundation - www.livestrong.org , 2201 E. Sixth Street, Austin TX 78702.
