Elsie McDermott Obituary

January 13, 1945 - October 21, 2010

Elsie McDermott, a longtime resident of Ranchos Palos Verdes, passed away October 21, 2010, at the age of 65. She was born in Pomona, New York in 1945. She graduated from Spring Valley High School in New York in 1962 and from Wittenberg College in Ohio in 1966. She received a master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan in 1968. She worked as a school social worker in Michigan, at a children's hospital in Texas and as a medical social worker in California. Her last position was at St. Mary's Hospital in Long Beach where she worked for over 20 years. She married Oliver McDermott in August 1973 in Pomona, New York. Elsie loved to visit new places and traveled extensively throughout the world with her husband, Oliver and son, Peter. She is survived and missed immeasurably by her son, numerous cousins and a large extended family. Services will be held at St. Peter's by the Sea on Thursday, October 28 at 3:00 p.m., with a reception to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter's by the Sea or the American Cancer Society. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
