Lauri Molloy Obituary

Lauri, a lifelong resident of the South Bay, passed away in her home in Torrance on September 2, 2010 after a two year battle with cancer. She was born on October 6, 1957 in Torrance, CA to parents Shirley and Wally McDonald. Her early education was in Torrance schools, Howard Wood Elementary, then Hull Middle School. Having moved with her parents to Rolling Hills Estates, she graduated from Rolling Hills High. While living on the peninsula, she pursued her love for horses, not only by riding, but also by training and showing her horses. In her career planning years, she attended and graduated from CSULB, majoring in health science which led her on the path to becoming a physical therapist. Lauri entered the physical therapy program at Children's Hospital and completed the program in 1985. After graduation as a registered physical therapist, she spent 25 rewarding years in the field helping people regain their health. She loved working with her patients, many of whom formed a special bond with her because of her kindness, gentility, and compassion. Later in her short life, after marriage and the birth of her only child, Caitlin, she enjoyed working on her home and in her garden, spending time with family and friends, taking road trips, and going to the gym. A devoted mother, loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many, Lauri has touched our hearts in a way that makes the sorrow we feel for losing her immeasurable. She is survived by her daughter, Caitlin Molloy; her mother, Shirley; her sister, Janice Burns; her niece and nephew, Alyssa Duenas and Stevan Duenas; her uncle, Raymond Metz; and her former husband and companion, Terry Molloy. A memorial service will be held at Gamby's Funeral Home in Lomita on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Donations can be made in Lauri's name for leiomyosarcoma research at their website, Lmsdr.org, in lieu of flowers. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

To the family of Lauri:
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of grief, My prayer for you is that the God of life will comfort you at this time of loss, and that you will remember all the good times, and that they will be of comfort to you. I have work with Lauri for over 20 years, and we would talk in the office and she always was smiling. I will miss her greatly and I know that the patients she cared for will too. They always commented that they realy liked her.

Sometimes generations keep people apart but the profession of physical therapy fills in that gap in time. Though I did not know Lauri personally, I could reiterate everything that was said in the beautiful obituary. Her patience and expertise with patients I'm sure produced positive outcomes. As a P.T. also, I know that she felt rewarded in her very giving heart. Your memories of this brave woman will surface quickly, erasing the trauma of her illness. Stay strong and well nourished all of you so she won't have to worry. Her spirit will live on forever.
