Lee Turnage Obituary

Lee, age 69, and Robyn, age 57, of Sanger, CA, went on their eternal vacation with the Lord on Friday, October 22, 2010. Lee was born on May 27, 1941 in Hawthorne, CA to Leamon and Opal Turnage. He grew up in Hawthorne and graduated from Leuzinger High School. As a teenager he worked at Thrifty Drug Store and actually served ice cream to his future wife, Robyn, when she was five years old. Lee was a retired plumber and loved working on projects around the house. Lee would always take Robyn to the beach because it meant so much to her and they enjoyed spending time together staring at the water. We all loved his sense of humor and gentle demeanor with his granddaughters, who melted his heart. Robyn was born in Newburyport, MA on January 16, 1953 to Norman and Ruth Gurley. Robyn also grew up in Hawthorne and graduated from Leuzinger High School. She retired from Fidelity National Title and loved to spend time with her grandkids. Robyn also loved to go shopping and to watch football after church on Sunday. She was kind and considerate. Every successful marriage has glue that holds it together -- Robyn was the glue. Lee and Robyn were married almost 31 years. They loved their church and all of their church family. They traveled extensively, loved the beach and enjoyed visiting their kids and grandkids. Holidays and family gatherings were always filled with laughter and enjoyment. Lee and Robyn dearly loved their family and friends and will be missed by all. Lee was preceded in death by his father, Leamon Kelly Turnage; and his sister, Sherrilyn Kay Ryals. Robyn was preceded in death by her father, Norman Wilbur Gurley. Lee and Robyn are survived by Robyn's mother, Ruth Gurley, of Fresno, CA; Lee's mother, Opal Turnage, of Hawthorne, CA; Robyn's sister, Kathy Eichholtz and her husband, John of Fresno, CA; Robyn's brother, Andy Gurley and his wife, Suzanne of Fresno, CA; daughter, Heidi Melber and her husband, Ken of The Woodlands, TX; sons, Brian Elam of Clovis, CA and Leamon Kelly Turnage and his wife, Kelly "Kellygirl" of Tampa, FL; six grandchildren, Helen Poulsen, Heather Poulsen, Madison Elam, Grace Melber, Katie Melber and Skyler Turnage. In addition, they are survived by, and will be greatly missed by, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that were like family. Visitation will be held at Wallin's Sanger Funeral Home on Thursday, November 4, 2010, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A church service will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church in Fresno on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. immediately following the service, a celebration of life will be held at Wolf Lakes Park, 11646 East Ashlan Ave., Sanger, CA 93657. The family suggests memorials be given to First Missionary Baptist Church, 1195 E. Shepherd Ave., Fresno, CA 93720. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

My most sincere sympathy to all the friends and family of Lee and Robyn. Lee was largely responsible for my career path and for my success as a plumbing contractor. He taught me the new construction plumbing trade the right way and took great pride in his work. Lee always had a sparkle in his eye and loved a good laugh. I remember him listening to the "oldies" while we worked or drove to and from jobs. I will remember Lee as a happy, friendly, good man, who is in a better place with Robyn now.

November 2, 2010

My deepest sympathy and love to both Robyn's and Lee's family. I grew up with the entire Gurley family and still am best friends with Robyn's sister, Kathy. Robyn was always a very happy person and had a great sense of humor. Kathy and I always had fun trying to annoy her as much as possible growing up! Robyn will be missed so much by everyone. Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever.

I am a second cousin to Lee, we always knew him as Carrol, he was my fathers' (Bill or W.T. Garrison) first cousin. I got to meet him when I was 15 when Dad took the family from Tennessee to California to visit (Dad was from Maricopa). Carrol made a definite impression on me and my brother Mike and I loved hanging around with him. The Garrison family in Tennessee were all shocked and saddened to hear the news and our deepest and most sincere sympathies to all the family, friends and acquaintances. God bless.

We did not know Leamon but knew his parents, going back to the late 1960's and became reacquainted when we rented the duplex behind their home in Hawthorne. They were like godparents to our son who was born there, took his first steps there with them, and began to talk there. We stayed in touch with them through the years and kept up with their children and grandchildren. Leamon notified us of his father's death a few years ago and we appreciated his contacting us and we grieved with him then. We grieve now for his & his wife's untimely deaths and hold all the family in our prayers. We imagine a joyful reunion between them and his father and his sister and know they will be joined by Opal one day. May God hold all of you in His hand and extend His peace to you during this most painful and difficult time. Mel & Lynn Ahrens
