Luka Pejic Obituary

Luka Pejic

Luka Pejic, born May 12, 1925 in Ruzici, Grude, Hercegovina passed away after a courageous battle against cancer on February 23, 2013. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Slavica and four loving daughters, Anita (Neven Bobich), Silva Larsen, Louisa (Chris Larsen) and Elena Pejic. He is the beloved grandfather of three grandsons, Niko (Stephanie Euceda) and Johnny Bobich and Pavle Curic; and four granddaughters, Natalya Bobich, Veronica, Allison and Janie Larsen. Luka has one great grandson, Joshua Bobich. Luka lost his parents at the tender age of seven and was raised by loving foster parents in Dakovo, Croatia. He enjoyed his childhood and often spoke fondly of it. As a cadet at the young age of fifteen, Luka was sent by the government of the Independent State of Croatia to Vienna, Austria to study Mechanical Engineering. Upon returning to Croatia, he was placed in a military camp during WWII and was only one of few survivors. Luka has been a proud Croatian since birth, right up to his last breath. Luka immigrated to the United States in 1961 and became a U.S. Citizen in 1971. He was an equally proud American and lived the American dream, owned his own business, bought a home, traveled, and had many valued friends. Luka loved to fly and was a licensed pilot and a member of several flight clubs both in the U.S.A. and Croatia. For many years Luka served as a member of the U.S. Air Force Civil Air Patrol and participated in many air rescues all over of the western U.S. and was the recipient of many achievement awards. Luka enjoyed music, writing poems and organized several small bands. He loved and cherished his many instruments. Luka was a beautiful, kind man who loved life and his family, living every moment to its fullest. A Memorial Service will be held in Luka's honor on March 2nd at 4:00 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary Chapel 570 W. 5th Street, San Pedro, CA 90731. Luka's final burial will be in his beloved birthplace in Hercegovina. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

Luka was a kind and gentle man. Whenever we would meet at the St. Anthony Church social hall, I always enjoyed talking with him about Croatian music. My sympathy to his family.

I was really sorry to hear that Mr. Pejic has passed away. Once, as a child, I was thrilled by an invitation to fly with the family to Catalina - and very impressed to learn that he was a pilot. Reading his obituary now, as an adult, teaches me what a trauly amazing person he was. What wonderful memories you have! I hope that soon, when you think of him, it will be with a smile instead of tears. My visits with your family gave me some great memories too.
My sympathy to Mrs. Pejic, Anita, Silva and the rest of the family,

Draga Familija Pejic,
He'll always be "Mr. Pejic" to me. Our parents did so much to help us keep our culture alive and have fun with all our Croatian friends. I'm very sorry for your loss. Please know that we'll always treasure everything he did for each of us and, especially, for all of you.
