Margaret Hall Obituary

Margaret passed away on October 24, 2010 in Colorado surrounded by her family. She was raised in San Pedro, California, the daughter of Norwegian emigrants Albert and Carrie Rudi. She graduated from the University Of California School of Journalism in 1948 and worked as a journalist, writer and medical editor at Cal for the University Press, School of Public Health and at the UCSF School of Pharmacy. She traveled extensively, living in Germany for 6 years with her husband, Don Hall, and in India where she worked for the World Health Organization. She settled in Berkeley, CA where she was known as a gracious hostess, entertaining her wide and varied circle of friends at her home in the Berkeley Hills. Maggie was an accomplished skier and backpacker, and enthusiastic volunteer for the United Nations Association, World Affairs Council, democratic political campaigns and open space preservation. She showed remarkable courage in the years prior to her death as she battled Parkinson's disease far from her beloved California. She is survived by her daughter, Susan; son-in-law, Roger Howell; grandchildren, Eleanor and Clara Howell; sister, Corinne Westlake; nieces, Kari Butler and Lise Dewey; and nephew, Eric Westlake. Maggie was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

I was Margaret Bank teller some 15 year ago. She always treated me with respect, she was such a lady. She was a perfectness and I admired her for that, I loved to hear of her travels. I know she is in heaven with her planning and putting down how long it took her to get there. My prayers are with her family. I was just glad to know such a great person.
