Maria AsoauRomero Obituary

Maria passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2010. Maria is survived by her husband, Juventino; her four children, Angela, Regina, JR and Emily; her parents, Lefanoga and Sandra Asoau; loving aunts and uncles; her many precious brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews; and her "Furry Grandchildren". She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Fa'apisa and Ofisa Asoau and Rose and Bud Branzuela; her niece, Samantha Moreno; and her nephews, Junior Asoau and Albert Caldera. Maria was born at San Pedro Hospital on June 28, 1960. She spent some of her childhood in San Francisco, but most of her life was spent in her hometown of San Pedro. She was a proud member of the SPHS Class of '78 and went on to raise her children in San Pedro schools. As a born nurturer, she touched the lives of many area youth by serving as a teacher's aide at Taper Avenue Elementary, managed youth carriers for the News-Pilot, and she especially felt called to teach children about God as a religious educator for both Mary Star and Holy Trinity. Her compassion carried into her professional life at Kaiser Permanente, Harbor City where she served as a union steward and lead many teams for the annual diabetes walk. Maria loved to volunteer her time to many other organizations such as San Pedro AYSO, Dodson Drama and the San Pedro Lady Boosters to name a few. She was the world's cheerleader and photographer and will be greatly missed. Viewing will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 4pm - 8pm at Halverson, Stone & Myers Mortuary, 1223 Cravens St, Torrance. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 10am at Holy Trinity Church, 209 Hanford Ave., San Pedro. The reception will follow the gravesite at Holy Trinity Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in her honor to the American Diabetes Association. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

Wow, I just found out. I was reading the crosses set up for all Souls Day at Holy Trinity Church looking for my daughters and I found Marias. I just could not believe it...just stood there. Your mom was so awesome, I've know her since Jr. High...always the same classes together. She always had a smile and a wave for me at church. We would run into each other from time to time to chat, she was always so happy. Going to miss seeing her on FB.
My prayers are with your family, she is truly going to be one of the Lords's best Angels.

Respectfully, Enzinna Arguijo

Never have I felt the hand of God more, than when he reached down from heaven and plucked you from our lives. Like a cruel game of "I got your nose". Except you can read the hurt on my face, as plain as if my nose were really missing. I keep likening your "disappearance" to losing a limb. No other loss can compare, because without you I am not a whole person. I will learn to live without you and the only comfort in that task is knowing that you will be in heaven watching over me and putting in a good word for me with the Big Guy. I will miss you everyday for as long as I live.

Maria is my sister, the oldest of 20 something. She was our rock, our peacemaker and most of all our now fallen angel. She will be truly missed from all of us who knew her, She was a tremendous person and loved everyone. Those of you who knew her knew she was a blessing to have in your lives, so i and my family truly thank you all for sharing your special memories about her. Maria, someday my loving sister we will see eachother again, save us a spot in heaven. Know that everyday your gone you will never be forgotten, I thank you my sister for never judging or choosing sides when things were not right, I thank you so much for loving me even when I know I was wrong. I love you and am going to miss you dearly, I already do. I love you my loving sister and again you will be and already missed. God Bless You on your journey home, see you when I get there.

Dear Romero Family:

I can't express how sad we are wth the passing of such a wonderful person as Maria. We just found out abut her passing today and would have loved to participate in the celebration of her life yesterday and today.

We were always immpressed by he mature, nuturing and responsible support of not just her family but all the children of San Pedro. We truly enjoyed her intelligent and positive conversation. She was so humble yet enormously proud and supportive of her children.

I know she is seated at the right hand of God. I will ask her to pray for us.

May God comfort your family and give you peace within to know that your amazing Mother is forever with you in spirit. A poem of a special mother in which you all have.
Everything Mom
How did you find the energy, Mom
To do all the things you did,
To be teacher, nurse and counselor
To me, when I was a kid.

How did you do it all, Mom,
Be a chauffeur, cook and friend,
Yet find time to be a playmate,
I just can't comprehend.

I see now it was love, Mom
That made you come whenever I'd call,
Your inexhaustible love, Mom
And I thank you for it all.
Your Mom was amazing because it reflects upon her amazing children. God Bless You all.

I met Maria through my niece, Ashley, who is friends with Emily. She was always warm and friendly, and got my sister, Kathy, involved in many school activities at Dodson - mainly as a result of their girls'involvement in Drama. They bonded over a shared passion for photography; the experience and friendship that developed over time proved to be very rewarding for each of them.

Maria coordinated the Diabetes Walk that a large number of our family participated in last October in Long Beach. It was a great experience, as our family had just lost our nephew-in-law, Billy Eichelkraut, to complications resulting from his life-long struggle with diabetes. She brought THRIVE T-Shirts for all participants, and we brought "Billy" T-Shirts, which we shared with one another.

Maria is an angel. I will miss the opportunity to see her again and to experience her warmth and kindness.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, and all who were fortunate enough to share closely in Maria's life, at this sad and difficult time.

Dear Romero Family,
My grandson was in Mrs. Romero's CCD class at Holy Trinity that just began this year. We are thankful she was willing to share her love of God with these children. I am sure Mrs. Romero was a "gift" to many children through her volunteering at Holy Trinity CCD. My daughter, grandson Quinn and I extend our sympathy in this time of great loss. Dear Romero Family,
On behalf of the staff and players in the San Pedro High School Girls Soccer program, I would like send our sincere condolences. In just a few short weeks, Maria had made a huge impact on our program. She dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort in organizing future fundraisers and inspired others to follow her example. She had such an enthusiastic and giving personality that will be forever in our memories. Emily, you are surrounded by girls that love you and want to support you and your family any way we can. We send our warmest hugs and prayers. God Bless you.

Dear Romero Family:
I met Maria last year when she came to volunteer at the SPHS Lady Boosters' snack bar during football season. Her daughter was not even at SPHS yet, but she wanted to check us out! She also came to our installation dinner in June and sat with me...and even though I did not know her that well, I considered her a friend. She was warm, caring and gracious and talking to her you saw how much she loved her family and community. I just ran into her at Acapulco's a couple weeks ago....and I can't believe she is gone. I am so sorry for your loss, I know there is a large hole in your hearts right now. You are all in my prayers. I am in shock.....

JR and family-
Words cannot express the sadness that we feel for you as you mourn the loss of your mom, it is one thing when it is expected, but when God takes you all of a sudden, nothing can be more harder. All we can do is pray for strength and happiness, knowing that God must have needed her and chose her to be one of his angels. She touched many people during her life, and I just want to thank you Maria, for always making my daughter Miranda feel welcome at your home and treating her like family! I hope that JR feels the same, because we love him like a son...and we will take care of him always and the Romero family will always be in our prayers. God Bless you- Mario, Renee Olloque and family

To Our Romero Family,
Life as we know it will never be the same. It is like doing a 1000 piece puzzle only to find out that you are missing the most important piece. What I do know is that Maria served the Lord each and everyday. Always remember her big smile and then just imagine how big that smile must have been when she seen Jesus. I bet she reached for her camera. We are going to miss her so very much. She was the one you could always rely on. Please know that we will always be here for all of you and you all mean so much to us. Heaven now has the greatest volunteer ever! Love always,
Kathy & Greg
