Mary Richards Obituary

Mary Magdalene Richards was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 25, 1917. She came from a large Syrian family of 5 sisters and 6 brothers. She was married for 25 years to Edward G. Richards (deceased). Mary, a longtime resident of the South Bay, was a passionate volunteer and philanthropist and a devoted wife and mother. In her senior years, Mary did a tremendous amount of outreach work with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and other community-based organizations, teaching children how to read and working with shut-ins. In March of 2000 she was honored at a banquet and presented with a certificate of achievement from President Clinton for her volunteerism and good works. She was dearly loved and greatly appreciated and will be terribly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Richards; grandchildren, Anna Nikander, Beau Lazar and Kerry Gerot; and great-grandchildren, Erika and Daniel Nikander and Angelina and Kylie Lazar. She died in Redondo Beach, California on October 9, 2010. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
