Nelly Shimazu (85) Obituary

Los Angeles, California-born Nisei resident of Gardena and former Poston Relocation Camp internee who proudly served as a sergeant in the United States Womens Army Corps during World War II, passed away on September 2, 2009. Formerly an employee of the LAUSD, she worked at Amestoy School in Gardena as a Teachers Assistant and was an active member of the South Bay Japanese Free Methodist Church in Torrance, and more recently an active attendee at the First Southern Baptist Church of Gardena. Beloved wife of John Shimazu; mother of Evelyn (Eric) Yee, Helen (Cliff) Jeng, Irene Robinson, Steve (Gayle) Shimazu and Susan Shimazu; grandmother of 6; great-grandmother of 2. Also survived by many nieces nephews and other relatives both here and in Japan. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 7:00 PM at Gardena Valley Baptist Church, 1630 W. 158th St., Gardena, Officiated by Rev. Cliff Rapp of Southbay Free Methodist Church.
