I met Bob when he volunteered at the maritime Museum. I also knew Marilyn from her work at the Toberman House. Theirs was a romance that would make a lovely book. How wonderul to find romance at 70. I am happy they had a great 18 years together. It is a happy thought to think that they left for Heaven together. Thoughts and prayers are with your family. Dear Robert and Charles (Chip)
You probably don't remember me, but my father and your father were best friends from a very early age. My father was Harold Simpson. My brother Bob and I grew up with your Grandparents on Meyler Street. I think one of you may still live in the house with the wonderful basement. I spent many hours with your grandfather exploring and listenting to his stories.
Your dad and my dad made their first trip to Catalina when they were 13 years old. They sailed to Catalina in a very small boat. I can't imagine allowing my sons (now 42 and 41) to sail to Catalina when they were 13 years old.
Your father was a wonderful friend to my father and our family. I am so sorry for your loss. We lost my Dad in 1985 when he was getting ready to celebrate his 68th Birthday. I know what a loss you must be feeling. As time goes by it will get better.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
My love,
Susan Simpson Thomas
p.s regards from my brother too. His name is Bob Simpson

Commander Mohle was my eighth grade science teacher in 1967. He is one of the few teachers that I remember from Fleming Junior High School. I have often wondered about him. I am glad to find out that he had such a long full life. I particularly remember his vivid description of his experience at Pearl Harbor. It was a great history lesson! It has stuck with me for over 40 years. Commander Mohle was a great man. You have my condolences. God Bless.

Commander Mohle was my eighth grade science teacher at Fleming Junior High. My aunt was the librarian there and was so fond of Bob .I will never forget how he recounted his own story of Pearl Harbor to all of his classes each year. He was an amazing teacher and a genuinely kind man. I remember my 8th grade science faire project not turning out the way I planned. He said, "That's the point...it was an experiment. It isn't supposed to turn out perfectly." Lesson learned! My classmates and I were his last class as he retired that year. We threw him a party and all chipped in and bought him a history book on WWII. I still have a photo of that day. I told my sons all about him and his Pearl Harbor story. I am a teacher myself now and hope one day, some of my students will remember me as I remember him. God bless Commander Mohle. To his family, he was loved by many students over the years.

My husband, Jerry Striff, and I met Janet Mohle when we were both teachers at Aviation High School in 1971. Through Janet we met Bob. They were very special people to a young couple who eventually became engaged and married. They hosted a dinner for us at their home before our wedding in which we learned more about our Scandinavian roots than we every knew existed. Especially fun was the Skol tradition with Akavit. Talk about a way to get a party going! I've reminisced about that dinner and what a fine model Bob and Janet were for us many times in the 38 years that we have been married. They have held and always will hold a special place in our family history and our hearts.

Commander Mohle: one of my fondest memories from my childhood was how you would, every December 7th, turn your science class into a history class, and share your Pearl Harbor experience with your students. I was only 13 in 1965, but this truly left a lasting impression on me. For many years I would tell family and friends about the wonderful science teach I had who was at Pearl Harbor and your story. Thank you for the service you provided our country and to me, a former student.

My name is Grant Reed and Commander Mohle was my 7 Th. grade homeroom and science teacher. On December seventh 1973 I walked into class and my love of history began. Bob ( we would never have called him that then !!!) must have come to his class room at o500 hours, you see he had used all the chalk boards to detail what happened on that day of infamy. The fact that he was their made it real and not a boring text book lesson. His first person account was better than television. To this day it is still a vivid memory.Just so you know I have a whole wall of Marshall history books and at least thirty of them are on Pearl Harbor in 1941 alone.
He was such an inspiration, his stories will be missed. I have gone on to get a B.A. in liberal studies with a minor in History thanks to his stories.I am a lucky person to have had him for a teacher he was such a positive influence, Godspeed to you Commander Mohle may the wind be always be at your back and the sun shining on you....
