Mary Christine Petrovich

of Long Beach, CA died on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 in her home, she was 91. Her husband, Archie, her best friend and fierce protector, was by her side. Mary's death came at 2:00am and was brought on by congestive heart failure. Born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 12, 1918 to Fred and Lucille (Cookie) Weathers, Mary was a talented singer and entertainer performing as the opening act at the legendary Larry Potters Supper Club in Hollywood where she shared the stage with many iconic celebrities. Mary moved to Hollywood, CA in 1942. In Hollywood, she shared an apartment with her girlfriend - legendary singer Peggy Lee. On April 18, 1942 she was united in marriage to Achim Petrovich in Yuma, Arizona. She gave up singing to devote herself to her husband. A woman of great personal style and considerable glamour, Mary came a long way from Kansas City where she and her sister Ella Mae grew up. Developing a love for fashion at an early age, Mary used her passion and studied design, later becoming a fashionable women's hat maker. A stylish and beautiful woman, Mary was always well dressed and beloved for her gentle and loving nature. She brought to her family, not only her very remarkable beauty, but the enthusiasm of life combined with innate dignity and good-natured sense of humor. She was an avid swimmer, cuisinier, devoted wife, and an adoring mother to her two boys, Nathan Campobasso and Danny Petrovich. She loved fashion, pop music, American Idol, and her treasured pets. Her beaming smile and sparking blue eyes was at the route of her charm. She will be remembered in our hearts for eternity for she is our beloved, nana. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Achim (Archie) Petrovich; both her sons, Danny Petrovich and Nathan Campobasso; her two daughters-in-law, Terrie Petrovich and Rebecca Campobasso; her grandchildren, Josette Campobasso-Espinosa, Kathy Janssen, Daniel Petrovich, and Cynthia Petrovich; her great grandchildren, Nathan and Andrea Espinosa, Breanna McCartney, Jessica McCartney, Nathan Gomez, Nicole Gomez, Joshua Petrovich and Kelly Petrovich; and her poodle, Charlie. Services will be held Friday, August 14th at 9:00am at Green Hills Memorial Chapel with interment to follow.
