Stephen Houska Obituary

Stephen Forrest Houska WOODLAND VALLEY-Stephen Forrest Houska, 57, of Woodland Valley Road died Tuesday June 7, 2011 at the Kingston Hospital surrounded by his family from a short battle with liver cancer. Steve was the born Dec. 14, 1953 in Brooklyn, son of Ruth Bromm Houska and the late Charles Houska. He was a longtime resident of Phoenicia who was a graduate of Onteora High School Class of 1972. Steve was employed for 30 years, by the NYS DEC, and at one time was the manager of the Woodland Valley Campsites. Most recently, he was a member of the trail crew at Wilson State Park in Wittenberg. He had an enduring love of nature and the great outdoors. He played the electric bass guitar, and enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a brother, Douglas, and his wife, Kim, of Shokan, and a sister, Julie, of Bearsville. His niece, Helen, and great nephew, "J.D.", along with many lifelong friends. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Steve will be held this summer. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia. Steve was a good friend and I will miss seeing him around. I still remember watching him and the guys (Jim,Dave & Ross) practice upstairs at the old house on old 28 when we were kids. Rest in Peace little buddy.
