Marion Pine Obituary

Marion R. Pine NEW PALTZ- Marion R. Pine, age 105, of New Paltz, died after a brief illness on Monday, July 8, 2013 at her Main Street home in the Village of New Paltz. Marion has lived in New Paltz since 1936, and previously lived in N.Y.C. Born on June 18, 1908, in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Francis and the late Mary (Kopp) Russell. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon D. Pine on Jan. 5, 1957, and her younger sister, Harriet Russell Livingstone, in 1988. Mrs. Pine was a funeral director from 1957 to 1988 at the family funeral home, Pine Funeral Home, Inc., in New Paltz. She was a member of the Reformed Church of New Paltz, where she also participated in the program “Getting to Know You”. Throughout the years, Marion participated in many clubs, including the New Paltz Study Club, New Paltz Garden Club, New Paltz Art Association. She was active in many bridge clubs. Marion was a unique person who always wanted to know what was going on in your life and listened intently with her broad and warm smile. Marion's family members all bragged about her, not only due to her age and amazingly good physical and mental health, but because she was that rare type of person who had the gift of making everyone around her feel special. If you were fortunate enough to know her, you certainly know about her warm, humorous, accepting and generous nature. She lived by the motto found on her porch: “you don't stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop laughing.” Marion is the mother of Vanderlyn Pine and Thomas Pine, both of New Paltz, and Thomas's significant other, Phyllis Clavie, of Hyde Park. She is grandmother to Gordon Pine, Paula Hannaford Agor (Va.), Brian Pine (Vt.), Daniel Pine, Brenda Bryan (Mass.); and Phyllis's children who are Sherry Garner, Andrew Clavie, Jr., Edward Clavie, Nicole Ronk, and Michelle Dart; also surviving are 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and many cousins. Calling hours will be Friday, July 12, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz. The funeral service will take place Saturday July 13, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Reformed Church of New Paltz, 92 Huguenot St., New Paltz with Dr. Kenneth Doka officiating.
