Desmond T. McNamara Guilderland Desmond T. McNamara, 85, passed away at home with his family by his side on April 28, 2015. Des was born in New York City, the son of Mary T. and Thomas McNamara. Beloved brother of Margaret (Bob) Kirby. Predeceased by brothers, James and Donald. Dessy served his country proudly in both the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Guilderland Elks, BPOE #2180, where he served as Exalted Ruler (PER). For many year Des was actively involved in many community programs through the Elks including coordinating holiday celebrations for developmentally and physically disabled individuals. Upon his retirement he became an avid golfer. He enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren sharing and supporting their activities and accomplishment. Desmond is survived by his wife, Rose; children, Robert (Cheryl), MaryAnn and Susan; grandchildren, Erin, Rachael, JamieRose, Alex and Connor; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dessy's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at the VA Day Care Program and especially to Karen Gagnon for her compassion and support. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, May 3rd from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Demarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike Guilderland. Funeral services will be Monday, May 4th 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumpter Avenue, Westmere, 12203. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to a charity of your choice.

Rose,
Des and I became good friends during the 10+ years my family and I moved across the street from you. I became used to BS-ing with Des as we both did yard work. He was a good man with strong character...the kind there seem to be fewer and fewer of made in the USA. I'll miss Desmond a lot.

Knowing him from the Guilderland Elks, we knew he was a good guy. Always nodding Hello and just being friendly was how I remember him. Our deepest sympathy goes to the McNamara Family at this time. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
