Glenn Aery Obituary

Glenn R. Aery AmsterdamGlenn R. Aery, 63, of Midline Road, Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born in Albany, a son of the late Thomas and Miriam Stephens Aery and was a 1968 graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School in Schenectady. Glenn attended Hudson Valley Community College. He married his wife of 38 happy years, Roxanne, in Rochester on August 17, 1974. They resided in Saratoga Springs before moving to Perth with their four children in 1987. Mr. Aery began working at Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Niskayuna in 1972 and continued his employment there for nearly 34 years until he retired as a property specialist in 2006. Glenn was a member of the North American Scrabble Players Association and excelled at local and out-of-state tournaments. He was passionate about competitive sports, especially beach volleyball, basketball, and tennis. Glenn also enjoyed kayaking and traveling with his wife. His most cherished activities involved spending time with his family and friends. He took pride in his role as Grandpa Pops to his three grandchildren, Logan, Nolan, and Annabelle. Survivors include his wife, Roxanne Reiniger Aery; four sons, Carl (Alison) Aery of Broadalbin, NY, Sean (Meg) Aery of Chapel Hill, NC, Jonathan (Laura) Aery of Rotterdam, NY, and Andrew (Ann) Aery of Whitesboro, NY; and six siblings, Susan Aery of Otis, MA, Donald Aery of Eagle River, AK, Thomas (Janet) Aery of Colonie, NY, Joan Aery of Jamestown, TN, Kathleen (Harry) Lenz of Cassville, NY, and Stephen (Maureen) Aery of East Amherst, NY. In addition, he is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 and Black Street), Johnstown. A memorial service to celebrate Glenn's life will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, conducted by his brother, Tom. As Glenn was a proud father of four former Broadalbin-Perth athletes, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to BP Sports Booster Club c/o Charla Simonson, 100 Bridge St., Broadalbin, NY 12025.

Roxy and boys - there are no words that can adequately express my most heartfelt and deep sympathies for Glenn's passing. The love your family has for one another is palpable and I know that this loss is tremendous. I hope you find a small amount of comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with his parents and all those who have gone before him. My prayers for peace and comfort for each of you and that you be the strength for each other to get through the coming days. I'm so sorry that I can't be there to express my sympathies personally but I will be out of the state. I love you, Rox...let me know if you need ANYTHING!!! Katie
