Mary Jendrzejczak Obituary

Mary P. (Walsh) Jendrzejczak Amsterdam One of God's earthly angels has returned to the Heavenly Host, Mrs. Mary P. (Walsh) Jendrzejczak, 89, of Church Street, Amsterdam, New York passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014. She was born December 5, 1924 in Troy, New York, a daughter of the late Richard J. and Anna Bounds Walsh. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School Class of 1942. Upon graduation, she entered the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing of Augustana College, now known as the Trinity College of Nursing & Health Sciences in Moline, Illinois, graduating in 1946. She also worked at Cook County General Hospital in Chicago. Upon returning to Troy, New York, she met her future husband, Vincent C. Jendrzejczak, and they were united in marriage on October 31, 1947 at St. Patrick's Church in Troy. She moved to Amsterdam, New York shortly after and worked at the former Amsterdam City Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital in nursing. She started her family and then began work at the General Electric Company for 17 years in the Treasury Department in Schenectady, New York, until illness interrupted her career. After regaining her health, Mrs. Jendrzejczak began assisting her husband in the family business, the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, utilizing her skills of patience, gentleness, generosity and compassion to assist bereaved families. She always had a soft smile and the Walsh demeanor won over many hearts. She continued assisting her husband for over 20 years, before stepping back to enjoy her later years. Mary enjoyed word games, puzzles and reading romance novels. She also found time to knit, crochet and do some home shopping. In her later years, she looked forward to wintering in Florida, where she could meet and gather with family. Family was extremely important to her and she cherished each family event that took place. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church. She was married to Vincent C. Jendrzejczak on October 31, 1947. He died June 1, 2014. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Jack, Richard, Edward, Robert, William; and by her sister, Nancy. She is survived by her sons, Vincent R. (Thelma Shumaker) Jendrzejczak, Williamsburg, Virginia and George E. (Jo-Ann) Jendrzejczak, Amsterdam, New York; grandchildren, Matthew E. Jendrzejczak, Phoenix, Arizona, Kimberly (Cary) Swartz, Athens, Pennsylvania, Karen (Brian) Scherer, Niskayuna, New York and Vincent J. Jendrzejczak, New York; great-grandson, Michael; sisters, Margaret Drewecki, Butler, Pennsylvania, Kathleen (George) Van Buskirk, Vero Beach, Florida, Elinore (Ben) Oathout, Vero Beach, Florida and Grace (Joe) Dillon, Vero Beach, Florida and Lake George, New York; many nieces, nephews and cousins. A prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, Cornell Street, with Rev. O. Robert De Martinis, Principal Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the funeral home.
