JEAN BOYD Obituary

Jean Matterson Boyd, 98, of Glenville, NY, died May 7, 2010 at Glendale Nursing Home following a long illness. Born Edith Louise Uhlig in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in the Oneonta, NY area, she graduated valedictorian from Gilbertsville High School and attended William Smith College, Geneva, NY. A longtime resident of Scotia, NY, member of St. Andrew's Church and St. Ann's Guild, Jean was a homemaker prior to joining TerBush & Powell, later General Electric, Schenectady where she retired in 1976. Jean's volunteer activities included Red Cross blood drives and many fundraisers with St. Ann's Guild. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed travel, needlework and following current affairs. With her husband, she enjoyed ballroom dancing and the Cortillion group. She spent winters in Daytona Beach and summers at Schroon Lake where she served on the Sand Point Beach Board of Directors. Mrs. Boyd was predeceased by her husband, Robert N. Boyd, in 2000; and by her first husband, Arden D. Matterson, in 1961; by her brothers, Ernest, Arno, and Harold Uhlig. Mrs. Boyd is survived by two daughters, Chrys A. Matterson of Adirondack, NY and Gail Matterson Vazal of Sandwich, MA; son-in-law, Frank Vazal; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kirk, and Lindsay; and dear friend, Loretta Adams. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Memory's Garden Cemetery, Colonie, NY.
