LEWIS HUBBARD Obituary

Lewis Russ Hubbard Lewis Russ Hubbard was born on December 20, 1954, to the late Lewis and Marguerite Hubbard in Lakewood, Ohio. "Rusty" grew up in Rocky River, OH, and studied art at Heidelberg College, where he met his wife of 34 years and then settled in Hoffman Estates. Lew worked as a graphic artist, painter, and later high school art teacher for District 211. Lew faithfully led his family as followers of Jesus Christ. Lew was highly involved in his church small groups, youth ministries and choir. Lew was an amazing husband, father, artist, teacher, mentor, and friend. He was affectionately known by students as "Hubbs". "Some people have nice cars and houses, but I am grateful for three children and a wife who love the Lord." At the age of 58, on August 11, 2013, he suddenly went to be with the Lord. Lew is survived by his wife, Gina; children Benjamin (Kallie), Nathan (Laura), and Maggie; sister Susan Curtis; and many other loving family and friends. Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the First United Methodist Church of Palatine, 123 N. Plum Grove Rd., Palatine on Thursday, August 15, 2013. A Memorial Service will be held at the church on Friday August 16 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lew Hubbard Memorial Art Scholarship Fund or First United Methodist Church of Palatine Youth Ministry. Arrangements by Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, Palatine, 847-358-7411 or www.ahlgrimffs.com.

Dear Gina and family, I recently learned of Lew passing from one of my coworkers that their daughter had him for an art teacher and another coworker that attends the same church. I am so so sorry for your loss. He was an amazing man and has such a beautiful wife and children. He was way too young and it saddens me that the lord took him so soon. I need to come see you and give you a big hug. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Nunzia, Steve, Rosemarie and Steven Czech XO

Gina and family, I am so sorry to learn of Lew's passing. Lew and I were hired at the same time at the Berg admissions department so I got to know him beyond our student years. He was goofy and fun and always painting or drawing so very happy he was an art teacher. Lew made a big impact and now it is up to us to carry on his spirit and vitality. Gina, my prayers are with you and your family. Leslie Apetz Heidelberg '77

Gina, Carla and I are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Lew's passing. I spent many years with him -- watching his talent as a graphic artist at work every day and learning from him at the same time. May God rest his soul and give comfort and peace to all of you in the Hubbard family.

Dear Gina, Benjamin, Nathan, Maggie, and Family,
Our daughter Maggie had the privilege of attending four years of Art classes with Lew at Fremd High School. He made a lasting impact on Maggie. He embodied the gracious care of Jesus Christ in his job as her teacher. Lew inspired her to be herself and to express herself through many art mediums. His artistic influence inspired her so much that she has declared Art as a minor in college. We are so grateful to have had the pleasure and honor to get to know Lew. We cried tears of shock and sorrow at his sudden loss. May God provide you with comfort and sustain you during this very difficult time.
In Christ's Love,
Carolyn, Steve, and Maggie Swofford

My daughter was a student of Mr. Hubbard's. I had the privilege to meet him in one of the school open houses. I'm extremely saddened by this news. May you receive comfort from our Heavenly Father.

I haven't seen "Rusty" in a long time and this is extremely difficult to accept. He was a classmate of mine (RHHS Class of 1973). My condolences and deepest sympathies go out to his family. May God be with them through the difficult times ahead. We will remember him always.

I only met him once when we went on a fishing trip to Canada with my brother in 2000. I had no idea what a incredible artist he was - one in a million. You see God's hand in his work and he has clearly touched many lives. He is with the Lord now - the great artist himself surely getting the greatest lessons on art and nature!

I haven't seen "Rusty" Hubbard for many years and was so shocked when I heard that he had suddenly passed away. I remember him as a classmate from Rocky River High School class of 1973. This is especially hard and shocking as we just had our 40 year reunion. I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to Rusty's family and pray that God will see them through this difficult time. It seems that God needed him and so he called him home. Rest in peace.

Hubbs and I always had a rocky relationship because he knew just how to push me. He knew how to challenge me. And I always respected and admired him for that. I knew him for many years, inside and outside of Fremd and he always had a smile on his face and he was always encouraging everyone around him to try their best. He had faith in everyone. This is a very difficult passing for me to accept, even though I haven't seen Hubbs in years. He was a good man and he has a family that is so loving and accepting of everyone...and I believe that a lot of that came from Lew. Rest in peace, Hubbs. I hope you find my missing art project in "the land of the lost" ;)

oh hubbard, i cant even think of words right now. Im sure all of your students can say that you helped make them the person that they are today and that couldnt be more true for me as well. There were many times you took care of me and helped me even when it wasnt even your responsibility and i can never thank you enough for all the things you have done. Love always, Elory Hranicka

Sending thoughts and prayers to Lew's family and friends. Although he had graduated from Heidelberg before I arrived; his beautiful artwork graced the campus for all to enjoy.
Heaven is clearly one angel more beautiful now.

We hadn't seen Rusty in many years, but I'd recognize that smile anywhere. Rusty will always be a cherished part of my early childhood memories, and he will always be a beloved member of the Rocky River High School Class of 1973. Our deepest condolences to his family.

Hubbard was the most personable, helpful, kind teacher at Fremd. There was nothing you couldn't talk to him about. I was lucky enough to know him my whole high school career, and I only wish the future generations could have known him as well.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Hubb's passing. My daughter, Christine, had him as a teacher for art and he was a bright spot in her life. He was the only teacher she would occasionally talk about at home. I met him at the Frame Up shop art contest and watching Christine and him chatting, I could tell he was a very special man. He loved his students and they loved him. Lots of prayers and thoughts are being sent your way.

Hubbard was one of the few teachers that truly cared about his students. He always made sure nobody felt left out and he helped me and my friends through some very rough times. He was an amazing artist and teacher and his compassion and talent for art will be carried out through his students forever.

I remember Rusty as a great classmate and an even greater person. He was a very talented and gifted individual---both in art as well as in his mentoring and guiding others. I still see his talent in the pages of our high school yearbook. Our thoughts and prayers for the Lord's comfort are with you now and in the time ahead.
