ROBERT BARTIK Obituary

Robert F. "Bob" Bartik Robert F. "Bob" Bartik, 82, passed away at his home in Panama City Beach, Fla. on May 16, 2010. He was born June 4, 1927, in Cicero, Ill., to Francis Bartik (nee Cadez). He graduated from Morton High School in January 1945, and immediately joined the Navy. Thanks to the GI Bill he attended the University of Illinois, where he received a bachelor's degree in statistical economics in 1951. He worked for Remington Rand, then Kemper Insurance in Chicago and Lake Zurich as an actuary, until he retired in 1989. Bob was inducted as a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society on Nov. 10, 1972. He married Evelyn Kotowski of Chicago on New Year's eve in 1948 (62 years), and is survived by her and their five children, Karen (Tim Berkery), Steve (Chris), Susie Thomas (John), Dave (Kelly) and Marcia Sobon. He has five grandchildren, Shane (Stacy), Kaitlin, Marcel, Becky, Mariah and Zoe; and one great-grandchild, Garrick. He is also survived by his brother, Edward-Duke (Marge) in Missouri. Bob loved technology, and in 1981, was one of the first to own a TRS80 computer. He was an avid bridge player and a fan of Cubs baseball, Big Ten sports and UConn Huskies women's basketball. He was also an advocate of title nine before it ever became law. He valued a college education; all five of his grandchildren have graduated or are pursuing a degree. In retirement he loved to travel annually to New England for the fall colors and work his way - south to the Florida Gulf Coast for the winter. The Bartik's resided in Mundelein, Wauconda and Lake Zurich, Ill., before permanently moving to Florida. A "Celebration of his Life" was held on May 21, on his beloved white sand shore in Fort Walton Beach. Memorial donations can be made to Covenant Hospice, who provided tremendous support during his last months. Send to Covenant Hospice, 107 W. 19th St., Panama City, FL 32405.

Evelyn and Family - I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Bob. I was surprised to see that you moved to Florida. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I also lost my beloved Bill on May 23. He had been hospitalized for 8 months due to complications from heart surgery. Take it one day at a time and I will be thinking about you.
