We met Patrick (otherwise known to us as PP) when he and Ruth were in college together in the 1980s. They hosted us in Champagne when they were students at U of I and we attended the first Willie Nelson Farm Aid concert. We had a great time with them. We observed their relationship evolve over the next few years while they fell deeply in love and eventually married in 1989, I was Ruth's brides maid which was so special. PP became a significant member of our family and we loved him to the moon and back. His death was so unexpected and shocking and we all still miss him so. My heart aches for Ruth but I have seen her courageously push on with her life while keeping a special place in her heart for PP. We miss you PP and will do so forever. XXOO

Pat was always an amazing friend. So many memories of long ago, sharing our thoughts while trying to figure out life, and all along deep down he knew what he would be from the moment his Science teacher gave him his first chemistry set. Though different roads we took I have never forgotten caring friendship. God willing, I hope to share some stories with him.

I'm deeply sadden to hear of a former friend passing at so young a age. Met you when pickup trash then to becoming a mailman then back to college and working for Quaker Oats in Barrington. I will miss those days long ago when lunch was a Salad and a margarita at Kelsey's road house. Until we meet again ....

I am deeply touched by the outpouring of sympathy, support, love and kindness from Pat's former coworkers, YMCA buddies, our close friends and family. Your kindness is immeasurable. It sustains me during this time of great sadness. Pat was and continues to be the love of my life and as some of you said, my soulmate. My life is forever blessed by Pat.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping Pat's memory alive and for all that you have done and continue to do for me.
Love,
Ruth

Pat was a fellow YMCA exerciser and was a great person. He and I had a lot of discussions about his work and walking stairs. He was really a nice guy and loved his family. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

I will miss Pat dearly. He and I worked together at Quaker/Pepsi many years ago, but were fortunate to stay connected over the years. He was a teacher, an excellent colleague, and a friend. We are forever connected over a horrible pasta making production line gone wrong (at a copacker by the way) memory, runs to get diet caffinated sodas (for those really long plant trials, and walking into convenience stores with hairnets on (ugh!). Although I have not met Ruth or Pat's family, I knew you all through his loving stories of his wife and family, and wish you all the best during this difficult time.

I grew up with Pat. Our backyards adjoined and we both had large families. Riding in his Camaro, Buffalo Grove Days, St. Mary's, so many years ago.
I am sad sad to hear of his passing. May the Lord be with him.

Words cannot describe the sadness in my heart. I feel blessed to have had known and worked with Pat when he was a consultant for Quaker although our time working together was not long. He was a very kind soul and the ultimate gentleman. He always spoke lovingly of his wife, Ruth. He was a dedicated, smart, and hard-working engineer who always gave his work 110%. Pat will be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. My deepest condolences to his wife Ruth and family.

I so enjoyed working with Pat in the Golden Grain Division at Quaker Oats for many years. He was the consummate gentlemen and such a kind soul. He spoke often of Ruth who was truly his soulmate. My sincere sympathy to Ruth and all his family.

Pat was a lovely man and a great husband to my best friend Ruth. They were two peas in a pod - Romeo and Juliet. My deepest sympathies and love go to Ruthie, the Dickmann and Patterson families.

I had the pleasure to work with Pat on several projects at the Quaker Research labs. I'll miss him as one of the kindest and most fun researchers. For Pat, the journey was just as important as the destination. Condolences to the Patterson family.

Pat is going to be greatly missed by many. Words cannot express my sadness at his passing. He was a wonderful husband to Ruth, a kind man, and a great friend to many. He and his lovely wife, Ruth, were a match made in heaven. May Ruth, family and friends, find comfort in the days ahead knowing that they were blessed to have Pat in their life. Heartfelt condolences and prayers for Pat and for all that grieve for him.
