Donald Bates Obituary

Graveside service for Donald Levoyd Bates, 78 of Talladega will be Monday December 23, 2013 at 10:00 am at Oak Hill Cemetery. Rev. Turk Holt will officiate. Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega will direct. Mr. Bates passed away at his home December 20, 2013. He was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega. He graduated from THS in 1955. He was voted Best All Around his senior year. He was also captain of the football team. He was employed with the Talladega Water Department, Talladega Park and Recreation Athletic Department and then as superintendent serving 35 years. Later he worked security with the Talladega Super Speedway and as a school bus driver with the City of Talladega for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane Bates, sons, Greg and Gary Bates, grandchildren, Derek, Michael and Hunter Bates, brother-in-law, Jerry Stone, sister-in-law, Janice Stone, nephews, Brad, Brian and Brandon Stone. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Jane, Greg& Bubba, Gail, Sherry and I are so sorry to hear about Donald. We will miss him. He was a wonderful guy and I really got to know him more when he would stop by to visit with Gail and Charles. We were in Auburn at the time of the service, but you all were in our prayers. We love you.

It is so very sad to know another friend and classmate is no longer with us. I can picture him and my husband now in Heaven chatting and talking about football, etc. He surely will be missed by man friends and his family. May God bless you with His mercy and peace at this very sad time.
