Dr. Rev. Joseph A. Porter D.D., age 92 years, 9 months, and 5 days, passed away on January 3rd, 2015 Saturday Evening at 7:00 p.m. to enter the Kingdom of God with the Lord Jesus Christ. He was born Joseph Alexander Porter on March 29th, 1922 at 124 Margret Street in Talladega, Alabama at the original Porter Family Homestead of his loving and devoted parents Mr. George Joshua Porter Sr. and Mrs. Cora Ann Yester Porter whom proceeded him in life. He was also proceeded in life by his only sister, Professor Frances Ellen Porter and only brother George Joshua Porter Jr. leaving Dr. Rev. Joseph A. Porter D.D. the last of his immediate family. Dr. Rev. Porter graduated from Emory, Vanderbilt and Yale University. Among his many degree's it was his degree in the 'Word of God' he lived 24/7 throughout his life to always comfort the ill, grieving and poor with prayer and love for everyone. For all the many thousands of Baptisms, Marriages, and Funerals he performed were all blessed, by his genuine joyful heart he always shared with the tens of thousands in the 14 Churches he served through the country as pastor and spiritual leader. On February 14th, 1947 Valentine's Day at the Wesley Foundation dance at Yale University New Haven, Connecticut, Dr. Rev. Porter met the love of his life and to be his soul mate for eternity, Ms. Lillian Caroline Kane. It was love at 1st sight. On June 14th, 1947 at The Talladega Methodist Church, Dr. Rev. Joseph A. Porter D.D. and Ms. Lillian Caroline Kane were married in Talladega, Alabama. After several weeks on their honeymoon in Florida, they returned to Talladega to start their close to 68 years of Marital Bliss always joined at the hip in their personal relationship and ministry they shared 24/7. Dr. Rev. Joseph A. Porter D.D. was Ordained in the Methodist Church in 1948. He served in the Methodist Church and the United Church of Christ (United Congregational Church) for 50 years in the states of Alabama, West Virginia, Michigan, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Florida and his last parish was The Historical Whitneyville Congregational Church in Hamden, Connecticut. Dr. Rev. Porter was cremated and a service of the 'Celebration of His Life' will be at a later time to be announced. Dr. Rev. Porter is survived by Mrs. Lillian Caroline Kane Porter, Joseph David Porter, Agent/Officer Thomas Alexander Porter D.P.O., L. Keith Cox Porter, Jacquelyn Ann Hennessey Donovan and by so many very distant kin folk. A Memorial/Scholarship Fund has been established in Dr. Rev. Joseph A. Porter D.D. name at Talladega College to provide for the Talladega College Campus Police Department and Students majoring in Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Degrees. The family of Dr. Rev.
