Clarence Edwin Finn

- Funeral service for Clarence Edwin Finn, will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Childersburg Cornerstone Church of Christ with Bro. Clarence Denney officiating. He will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery in Hanover, AL. Clarence Edwin Finn died peacefully in his sleep Thursday morning at the age of 92. Known to one and all as Mickey Finn, he was born in Childersburg, Alabama to his parents John Timothy and Ola Louise Finn. At age 19, he joined the Navy and served in World War II aboard PT Boat 130 in the Pacific. They were first to engage the enemy at the battle of Surigao Straits in the Philippines. Part of the battle of Leyte Gulf, this battle put an end to the Japanese fleet and is considered the largest naval battle in history. He kept a diary during the war but was never able to bring himself to read it. We have no idea what these of the greatest generation went through. He returned home after the war and married Eva Virginia Goodgame, his wife for the past 65 years. He worked as a millwright for Kimberly Clark, was president of his union, served on the housing authority and the library board. He was always ready to lend a thoughtful and helping hand. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Always interested in walking and encouraging others to do the same, he was joined on his 90th birthday by a surprise group of his family and friends to walk the 5k in Childersburg. Childersburg honored him as Man of the Year in 2015, an honor he cherished. Mickey was preceded in death by his father and mother, and by his brother, John William Finn. He is survived by his wife, Eva Goodgame Finn and by his nephews Jim Goodgame (Mary Ann) and Van Goodgame, and his niece Gloria Hewett (Don).
