Leona Himes Obituary

Leona Logan Himes of Linwood, N.J. Leona Logan Himes, 102, of Linwood, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Brandall Estates Assisted Living. Previous to the year 2000 she resided in Egg Harbor Township and Ocean City, N.J. Leona was born in Upland, Pa. on November 15, 1907 and lived her childhood years in Doe Run and West Chester, Pa. She was a graduate of West Chester High School and attended business school after graduation. Upon her marriage to Willis Himes of Kimberton, Pa., she moved to Phoenixville and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Leona was also a past member of the Manavon Chapter #496 Order of the Eastern Star and was active in many civic activities. She later lived in the Spring City area before moving to New Jersey. She was employed by the Flanders Hotel as well as Wesley Manor during her working years in the shore area. Prior to her retirement she was employed by Prudential Insurance ARA Food Services in Linwood. She was the daughter of Eli Logan, Jr. and Mabel Pierce Logan. Her husband, Willis Evans Himes, son-in-law Arthur P Collins, Jr., brothers Eli, John and Thomas and sister, Amy Logan Dillman, predeceased her. One daughter, Nancy L. Collins of Millville, N.J. and two grandsons, Christopher and wife Erica of Englewood, N.J. and David of Millville, N.J., survive her. Leona also leaves behind three nieces, several dear extended family members and many friends who meant so much to her. Her life was devoted to doing things for the family she loved and helping others. She truly touched the lives of others. A graveside service will be held at the Unionville Cemetery, Unionville, Pa. at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the ARC of Cumberland County Recreation Program, 1680 Sherman Avenue, Vineland, NJ 08362 or Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053.
