I had Father Foley for Religion at Cardinal O'Hara back in 1969. Reading all of the wonderful descriptions of him about how kind, sincere and warm he was, I can only concur. He was almost too nice for the boys that at times tried his patience to the point of him getting red in the face! Rest in Peace Father Foley

Father Jim,

You will be missed tremendously. I remember sitting down with you and discussing life as if it were one of the most treasured gifts God has ever given me. You are deeply missed by my mother as well. One of her fondest memories of you is the kind heart you had and making her feel very special when my father passed away. You were truely a wonderful man.

Love,
Maria and Pat Murphy

"Father Jim" was a learned friend, dinner companion, and we shared many a sports story and love of the Phillies, 76ers and Big 5 basketball...his holiness, spirituality and love of the Church, life and love of all in his parishes exuded from his Irish smile and personality...I was blessed to have been with him in the hospital and to have talked to him shortly before God brought him home, to suffer no more....I will never forget him and happiness he expressed at my being called to the priesthood....he joins Msgr Tom Duane in watching over me every step of my journey .... Father Jim, your friendship was a special gift and a privilege...

Msgr.Foley was my competent Old Testament scripture professor while I was a student at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. His knowledge of the Sacred Scriptures, especially the Old Testament was an inspiration to all that were fortunate to have him as a seminary professor. To this day, I have Bright's History of Israel on my bookshelf and use it constantly as a reference source when preparing articles for publication. The text was a favorite of Msgr. Foley's and is for me a constant reminder of his class in Old Testament scripture studies. He was a beloved priest and scholar, we have suffered a great loss.

It was with great sadness that we, his family in Ireland, heard that our beloved cousin Jimmy R.I.P. had passed away. We will always treasure the memories of his visits to Ireland. As a child I recall the excitement in the house prior to his visits and in particular the preparations made my late grandmother Bridget Fox RIP his aunt. Jimmy was a very kind, fun-loving person who brought us on many exciting adventures when we were children tracing our shared roots back to places like Derrybrien. We were always so proud of his achievements and will miss his letters, cards and presence in our lives.
