Jean Bushnell Obituary

Jean Bushnell of Malvern Jean Bushnell departed this earth for her Lord's "house with many rooms" on May 17, 2012. She passed peacefully in the comfort of her family at her home in Malvern. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, David Bushnell, and her younger brother Parker Griffeth. She is survived by her older brother, Youlden Griffeth, her daughters, Julie Howard and Lorna Davis, her sons, Mark Bushnell and Evan Bushnell, their spouses, and nine grandchildren. Jean Griffeth was born in 1924 in Haddonfield, N.J. to Howard Griffeth and Helen Hunt. She married David Bushnell in 1949 and they moved to the Paoli/Malvern area in 1952. She often said she was the proud "daughter of an electrician" and passed this confident spark on to her four children. She worked as an executive secretary for many years and was skilled in short hand and typing, which she used in her personal life to compose short stories and write many letters to family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and always compensated for the weather by "taking your sunshine with you". Jean enjoyed beaches and vacationed every summer at the Jersey shore, where many happy memories were created in Avalon, N.J. She was active in her church, volunteered at the Paoli Hospital for many years, and later enjoyed volunteering at the Rediscovery Shop cancer society store. Along the way she gathered many close friends. The family wishes to express their thanks to the Paoli Hospital staff for their kind and skilled care. In lieu of flowers a donation to the American Red Cross is suggested. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 11th at the Great Valley Presbyterian Church in Malvern.

Dear Lorna and Mike,

So sad to hear of your Mom's passing. I enjoyed knowing a little bit of her through you, even though it was 35 years ago.

Dearest Lorna and Family,
Please know that you are in my prayers as you mourn the loss of your precious Mom. Yet I know that you are comforted by His assurance of her heavenly home, which is surely filled with sunshine all the time. What a gift that you could be with her in Malvern. I wish I had known her.
With much love and my deepest sympathy.

Dear Lorna and Family,
I have the fondest of memories of playing in the back yard of Uncle David and Aunt Jean's home in the early 60's. I remember running down to that little stream and playing in that big back yard. I recall Granddad's 90th birthday party in the back yard and smelling Uncle David's pipe, all fond memories.
I just had my father who is 90 now down to Houston last week and he expressed his sorrow of losing both his brother and sister in the last few months. Lorna, we all appreciate how you had a big part in supporting Aunt Jean through her last years, and we thank you for that. We wish you the best in dealing with your loss. I'm sure she will be missed and please accept our deepest sympathy.

Words cannot express the sadness we feel for the loss of your beloved Grand Jean, nor can words really help to ease the loss you bear, but just know that your Family is very close in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Julie, Lorna, Mark, Evan-I am sorry for the loss of our beloved Jean. Her picture in the obit is beautiful and captures what a happy, loving woman she was. I remember waiting for the school bus in elementary school. Mom would come out and chat with us. Once in a while, she would pretend she was getting on the bus and going to school with us! I have many fond memories of mom and our conversations. I am privileged to have known her, and all of you as well, for this long. Mom was blessed to have had children like you, and I know you took the best care possible of her when she needed it. I will be thinking of you all. With love, Lisa D'Ascenzo
