Peter Ten Broeck Obituary
Born in Glen Ridge, N.J., on Oct. 3, 1932, Peter was the son of the late Herbert Meeks Ten Broeck, Virginia Hunter Hackett and stepfather, Frederick W. Hackett. His brother, James Robertson Ten Broeck, preceded him in death in 2011.
Peter was a graduate of the Fay School, Southboro, Mass., Trinity-Pawling School in New York, and the University of Virginia. He also served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1955-1958.
Peter's career in textile marketing spanned more than 35 years, including executive positions with Deering-Milliken Mills, Allied Chemical Corporation and BASF Fibers. Peter was an avid golfer and enjoyed memberships at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club and the Kingsmill Golf Club, for over 30 years. In addition, in retirement, he enjoyed his volunteer work with the Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels and the Jamestown Foundation.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Carol; a son, Robertson Ten Broeck of Hollywood, Md.; and a daughter, Margo Calkin and husband, H. Bradshaw Calkin of Arlington, Va. In addition, he leaves four grandchildren, Angelica Ten Broeck of Saluda, Va., twins, Zachary and Schuylar Ten Broeck of Williamsburg, Va., and Lian Calkin of Arlington, Va.; and a great-granddaughter, Alaina Ten Broeck of Saluda, Va. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Dr. Warren Briggs of Marion, Mass.; nephews, Rolf Briggs of Holliston, Mass., Wyman Briggs of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Hunter Ten Broeck of Albuquerque, N.M.; as well as nieces, Monica Briggs of Jamaica Plain, Mass., Diane Hulburt of Mocksville, N.C., and Katrina McIntyre of St. Louis Park, Minn.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, 201 Duke of Gloucester St., Williamsburg, followed by a reception at the Parish House, 331 Duke of Gloucester St., Williamsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 709, Williamsburg, VA 23187; or to a favorite charity.

I was so very sorry to learn of your loss from Sue (Cooke) Tattar. You have my very sincere condolences on your sudden loss of Peter. Sadly, we went through a similar experience five months ago when Flip had a stroke and passed away after three weeks in the hospital. So, we know how hard such a sad occasion is for everyone in your family. You will be in my thoughts and prayers these difficult days.
I still remember fondly that crazy long one day visit we took from Sarasota to Disney World so many years ago. As time goes on you will have many happy family memories to share, and they will help all of you as you go through the next few months.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked at BASF for over 20 years and Peter was one of those special people that everyone knew, no matter which department you were in. He was "one of a kind" - intelligent, funny - and well liked by all. God bless you with His perfect peace and comfort.
