Lois HAISLIP Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Lois Ann Haislip, 77, of Newport News, Va., passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012.
She was born to the late William and Regina Schaeffer, in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Nov. 3, 1934. She had a wonderful childhood and grew up surrounded by six brothers and sisters, Irene, Bill, Betty, Jack, Bob, and Kay. All have passed away except Bob. Lois graduated from Sharpsburg High School in 1953. A few years later she met a young G.I. named Gene. Gene, with his Southern charm, swept her off her feet. In 1956, they married and together they traveled the world living in such places as Panama and Alaska during Gene's career in the U.S. Army. Together they raised three sons. Lois was an avid sports fan and she wore the "Black and Gold" in support of her beloved Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. Regardless of where she lived, Pittsburgh was always her home.
Lois was most proud of her two grandsons, Sean P. Haislip and Ian K. Haislip. She was instrumental in their lives from the time they came into this world and she instilled in them a strong sense of family. She participated and supported them in everything they did from scouting events to sports. But, she was most proud of them for their accomplishments in school, Sean being a graduate of Virginia Tech who is working on his Master's Degree in Architecture to Ian's admittance to the College of William and Mary.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Eugene S. Haislip; her three sons, Frank and his wife Claire, James, and Kenneth; her grandsons, Sean and Ian; her brother, Robert Schaeffer of Sarasota, Fla., along with numerous nieces and nephews in Pittsburgh, Pa., and countless friends throughout the States.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Peninsula Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Joseph B. Majewski.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements in the care of Peninsula Funeral Home. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

To the Haislip family.. I am a friend of Ian's and was so sad to read of his Grandmother's passing. I, also, was so pleasantly impressed, but not surprised, to read of her pride and delight with her family. She would be pleased to know that these family ties carry on: it shows in Ian. What a tribute!! She must have been a fine lady. My tho'ts and prayers are with the Haislip family in this time of sorrow.
