Hammie WEST Obituary
He retired in 2000 in Field Operations, Valve Division, at The Atlantic Group, Norfolk, after 15 years of service. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Men's Bible Class and the United Methodist Men's Club. He loved woodworking and spending time with his family and friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Ola and Hammie West.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria S. West; two sons, Brian West, and Keith West and wife, Mandy; four grandchildren, Brandon West and wife, Crystal, Karen Lynn Buckley and husband, Michael Jr. West, and Tyler West; two stepgrandchildren, Nora Bruce and Charlie Bruce; a great-grandchild, Coleman Michael West; two brothers, James "Mickey" West and Bobby Ray West and wife, Arlene; a sister, Mary Ann Edwards and husband, Lee; a goddaughter, Samantha Campbell; many nieces and nephews; and his "special companion", Toby.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at 2 Locust Run, Poquoson. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rita A. Callis and the Rev. George T. Insley Jr. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1294 Poquoson Ave., or to the Poquoson Fire & Rescue Dept., 830 Poquoson Ave., both in Poquoson, VA 23662.
