Jackie HOLLOWAY Obituary

POQUOSON - Jackie Wayne Holloway, 70, left his beloved home in Poquoson for his heavenly home on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Melvin Holloway; and grandparents, Mary and Tom Curt Holloway, and Bernie and Robert Forrest.
He left to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years, Joyce; children, Julie Holloway and husband, Gene Herman, Marvin "Bub" Holloway and wife, Stephanie, and Teresa Green and husband, Tim; brother, Melvin Lee Holloway; grandchildren, Haley Bryant, Amber Herman, Olivia Holloway, Norah Holloway, Ethan Holloway, Trevor Green and Jeremy Green; uncle and aunt, Bobby Dean and Elaine Holloway; sister-in-law, Debbie Webb; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marshall and Darlene Butler; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jackie was a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson; a graduate of Poquoson High School; attended Fire-Safety Training at University of Maryland; and retired as Fire Chief at NASA Langley. He was a dedicated public servant as a member of the Poquoson Volunteer Fire Dept. for 56 years, many of those as Chief.
After retirement Jackie enjoyed most taking his family out on his pleasure boat, the "Miss Joyce". He willingly spent hours volunteering for junior football, Girl Scouts, Masonic scholarship committees, and Trinity United Methodist Church. He honored his uncle Marvin Forrest by rising through the chairs to Master of Poquoson Masonic Lodge #49. He also shared a great comradery with the part-time staff at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, where he assisted for more than 40 years.
The family is inviting the P.H.S. Class of '58, and members of Volunteer Fire Departments, to sit together at services.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at the family home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rita A. Callis and the Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery, Poquoson, with Fireman's honors and Masonic Rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to Poquoson Fire & Rescue Squad, 830 Poquoson Ave., or Trinity United Methodist Church, 1294 Poquoson Ave., both in Poquoson, VA 23662. Online condolences to www.claytorrollins.com. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

December 4, 2010

Dear Joyce, Mel, and all of Jackie's loving family, I embrace your sorrow and grief at this tender time. I've know Jackie most of my life through school, as a co-worker at NASA, and at the many funerals I've conducted at Clator Rollins; but most of all I knew Jackie as a friend and kind hearted person. He will be missed by many but especially by you who have loved him the most. My prayers are that God, as He has done with so many of us, will hold each of you tenderly in His heart at this time.
