Jane EVERETT Obituary

POQUOSON - On Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, our beloved mother, "Jane Lee" Thomas Everett, 66, began her new life with her Lord and Savior, waiting to receive her next task since she so much loved helping anyone she has ever met.
The daughter of the late Elsie Evans Thomas and William H. Thomas Sr., Jane Lee was born July 22, 1944, and was the youngest of her siblings. A lifetime native of Poquoson, she graduated from Poquoson High School in 1963 as the class Valedictorian.
Upon graduation from high school, she began her secretarial career at NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton where she grew her extended family having the responsibility of typing for more than 32 engineers at one time, but also received numerous awards and letters of commendation for her dedication.
Awards included Best Typist and Stenographer of the year. The letters of commendation recognized Jane Lee for her superior capabilities and skills. NASA Langley's top management was also impressed with her skills and abilities when she was thanked for proving them wrong when they thought there would be inadequate clerical support for an important conference. In fact, the top management felt she had completed the "mission impossible" many times while she worked for them.
Jane Lee retired from NASA in 1990 after 27 years of service. Upon her retirement from NASA, she began adding to her extended family working as a Customer Service Supervisor with Newport News, Inc. (Spiegel Group) in Hampton. Jane Lee retired from Newport News, Inc. (Spiegel Group) after 12 years of service due to complications from a stroke in 2005. Since 2005, Jane Lee has been courageous in battling any and all obstacles that came her way medically.
Jane Lee was the loving mother of three sons, Ray of China Grove, N.C., Allen of Poquoson, Va., and Patrick of Hampton, Va.
She is also survived by her brother, William H. "Billy" Thomas Jr. of Poquoson; and a sister, Mary T. Burnett of Poquoson. She will be deeply missed by her Lhasa Apsos, Angel and Prince. Jane Lee is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews and close friends.
Our beloved mother and friend to others has been taken away earlier than we had expected. Even though she was taken away from us, her wish today would be for all us to move onward with our lives as she said so eloquently in her valedictorian address, "We are saying farewell to each other – farewell for the last time. We must close this part of our life completely, whatever our regrets may be. Indeed, we go on our way with courage and a firm faith in God, in ourselves, and our fellowmen; we look ahead into a challenging world and with strong convictions in our abilities, we expect to meet that challenge successfully."
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson and at other times at Patrick's residence, 28 Ivy Home Road, Hampton. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson by the Rev. Dr. Bill Wash and the Rev. Carol Bookwalter. Burial to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to Poquoson Rescue Squad, 830 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson, VA 23662 or Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Rd., Hampton, VA 23666.

My memories of Jane will pop up and they always bring a smile to my face because she was that kind of person who could always keep you laughing. She left this world too soon and I will never forget her and her fun-loving personality.

I still miss Jane Lee very much. I visit her grave at Parklawn sometimes and it is so sad that she was taken away so young. I won't forget her kind and generous ways and the friendship that we shared growing up.

Mary, Ray, Allen & Patrick, and to all extended family.
My name is Dana Allen and I've worked with your Aunt Mary for 17 years. I'm a Court Reporter w/ Schneider & Assc. I was able to attend Jane's funeral today at Tabernacle United Methodist Church. When I arrived and got out of my car the clouds were thick & heavy and sort of depressing. I went inside the church and got to hear a wonderful service about Jane, but most importantly, to me, was the Gospel music provided by the Great Elvis Presley. I looked around the church to see people singing along and even smiling in some cases. I thought to myself Ms. Jane Lee must have been his number one fan. It kind of sounded like my mother being a fan of his. As the service ended and we all walked outside, Oh My, the sun was out. We haven't seen the sun in two days. I have to think the Lord was smiling nice and bright to have accepted Jane into heaven and that's where the sun came from today. I just wanted to share my thoughts with you.
God Bless

Alan, Patrick, Ray, and family, Jane Lee was a special friend to me through our years at Poquoson High School. Not only was she very pretty, but she was an excellent student and a very good pianist. She was always laughing and joking and she could keep everyone around her amused and happy. I will miss Jane Lee and her smiling face and I will keep all of you in my prayers.

Patrick, please accept my condolences. Although I only met her once, she was a terrific lady. Best to the other sons too. God speed to all.

"Alan, Patrick, and Ray, since the first time I met your Mother 30 years at the Holiday Inn we hit it off. When I saw her, I thought that she was so beautiful and so sweet. Your Mother was a beautiful, and kind person all her life. She had the ability to make anyone welcome in her home, and when she was talking to you, you felt like the only person in the room. I love you all, and hope you will help each other through this. Please try to remember all the good times. I will miss Jane Lee and I know she is at peace.

Love Always,
Eleanor Smith
