Opal CARR Obituary

POQUOSON - Opal Kathryn "Cackie" Carr, 75, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sept. 27, 2010, with loved ones at her side.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, and a member of Victory Christian Center. "Miss Opal" worked for Poquoson City Public Schools as a bus driver from 1962 to 2000 and retired after 38 years of service. She also worked in the school cafeteria and retired in 1998 after 19 years of service. She was known and loved by many children throughout Poquoson Schools.
Mrs. Carr was preceded in death by her parents, Robert T. and Margaret K. Firth; son, Claude J. "Bunkie" Carr Jr.; and nephews, Eugene Champ Jr. and Larry T. Champ.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Claude J. Carr Sr.; her loving daughters, Margaret "Sissie" Connell, and Viola "Ola" Wilkinson and husband, James; a daughter-in-law, Sharleen West Carr; six grandchildren, Amber Huffman and husband, Andrew, Stephen Carr, Tillie Wilkinson, Trae Wilkinson, Stacey Connell, and Stephanie Connell; a great-grandchild, Shealyn Huffman; a sister, Myrna Champ and husband, Eugene; a nephew, Daniel Champ; special nieces, Karen Jackson and Sheila Brown; and numerous other nephews, nieces, cousins and family.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at her home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home by Pastor Donald G. Marsh and the Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.

Mrs Carr was truly a rare gem. She was one of the first people of Poquoson I met when the Air Force brought my family and I here in 1986. She was always a lady and we will miss her.
