Robert Sutherland Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Robert M. Sutherland (B-Bob, Mr. Bob) entered Heaven and was reunited with his son, Robert W. on August 2, 2014. Bob was born April 9, 1938 in Waterbury, CT. He accepted Christ as a young man in the Nazarene Church. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church for over 50 years where he worked with the children, teens, sound and served as S.S. Superintendent. Bob served in the Air Force, refereed basketball and coached the church softball team. He worked at Sports Bowl, Agape Christian Bookstore and retired from Craft Machine Works. Bob is survived by his wife of almost 54 years Peggy; daughters Becky Sutherland and Deborah Petrovitch; son in law Steve; and grandson Cameron, B-Bob's buddy Lilbit; siblings Karen Luciani and Barry Sutherland; in laws Alice and Ken Willison, Sue Sutherland and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Robert W.; parents Merle and Charlotte; brothers Craig, Daryl, Dean and Dwayne. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, from 6-8pm at Riverside-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 7415 River Rd. Newport News. Service will take place Thursday, August 7, at 10am at Riverside Baptist Church, 7409 River Rd. Newport News. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. Donations may be made to Riverside Baptist Church or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be made to www.altmeyer.com.
