Cathie, We met you and Joe at the Xango Convention in Salt Lake City, years ago. I don’t know if you would remember us? Joe and I emailed off and on through the years. Then we lost touch. We sent you a Christmas card this year but it was returned. We suspected the worst. Joe was such a sweet guy and always smiling! We will truly miss him! We hope you are doing well, sweetie. Warmest regards, Byron and Tara Chappell

Mark and Family-
I just heard about your Dads passing. I am so sorry. He was such a great guy and was a father figure and like a Dad to so many of your friends. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Cathie Mark and Marty, and family,
"Mr. Harney" always kept a smile on my face. The Boston accent, the jokes, loud laughs, support and love he showed for his family...the ability to see the kindness and humor, no matter what curve balls life throws at you. His smile was infectious. Looking at his picture right now brings nothing but good memories from the Northampton Pool days. Grateful to have known him. He was a special man to everyone in my family.
I am sorry for your loss. As my sister says, "we lost another good one today." I hope he can share a few of his jokes with my Dad up in heaven.
My thoughts are with you all and I hope only the good memories can help mend your broken hearts.
Much love,
Lisa Walters Frank

Cathie and Family,
We were saddened to hear of Joe's passing & regretted that we were out-of-town & missed the visitation & Mass.
Our fond memories of him as a neighbor and later during our occasional encounters in town always made us smile. We will miss his friendship and wit. We hope that God will give you strength during this difficult time and that you will find comfort in the memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May his memory be eternal.

The Harney family is in my thoughts and prayers. Joe was such a dear person and he enriched the lives of so many! Some of my fondest memories of Joe are our "WWE Dates"! He would take his boys and I'd take mine and we would laugh when we found that we were sitting right across the ring from each other! He worked tirelessly for the youth in our community and inspired so many. Thank you Cathie and kids for sharing your father with all of us. May God's love give you strength, peace, and comfort in this difficult time.

I'm so thankful that our very loved James Vincent Harney gave me the opportunity to meet brother Joe. So seldom do we enjoy the gift of immediate joy when meeting another person. So like brother James I felt the welcoming love of family. It's that love that never dies. Great warm hugs to each of you. Ginny Penrod in Merrimack, NH

You all were our neighbors and friends for many years and I have fond memories of Mr. Harney and your family. I know you all will miss him dearly. Just seeing his jolly face in the paper made me smile and his thick Boston accent is unforgettable. Mr. Harney was friendly, caring and helpful to everyone he met.
Our love and prayers are with all the
Harney Family.

Cathy, David and I were so sorry to hear about Joe. We will miss him terribly! It was always a pleasure to run into him...whether on a plane to Las Vegas, at a local running event, or at the Criner Pig Roast. Boy, could we bend each other's ears...always so much to catch-up on especially about you, the kids and grandchildren. We will miss him and love him forever. Keeping you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Growing up in the same neighborhoods as Joe in the city of Boston it was like connecting with a kindred spirit the first time I met him. Cathie, Matt (Bobbie Jo), Mark (Alison) Marty, Michael (Paul), Maureen (John), Marcia (Chris), Grandchildren and Family,
Our family is saddened at the loss of "our" Joe. He was always a beautiful ray of sunshine and brought a smile to our faces each and every time we saw him.
Joe was a very familiar face at so many events and a very dedicated supporter of Bethel High School sporting events. He was a "cheerleader" like none other! Joe definitely made this world a better place and we will never forget him.
May God comfort you all at this very sad and devastating time and may the precious memories of Joe keep your hearts warm forever.
With love,

With a friendly smile, a humorous quip, and a pat on the back, Joe was an endearing son of Erin. He made us happy to see him. And he was likewise in return. And, therein, may have been his code of life. From planning and managing road races, to cleaning the streets of Yorktown, to assembling food and gifts for the less fortunate during holiday season, Joe brought
out the "better angels" in all of us...including himself.
His running of the 100th Boston Marathon in April of 1996 was a tale for the ages. On that day, he "owned" the City of Boston. He not only soaked it all in, he gave it all right back. And the crowds knew it. On that day, he shared with all of us the boundless wonder of the human spirit.
He awaits us all, you know, in that place where he now dwells. He's there with outs-stretched arms and cold drinks in hand. And when he greets us, it will be with wit and wisdom; and with that mischievous twinkle of the eye.
He understood the "Greater Good". And he lived it.

My condolences to all of Joe's loved ones. Joe was one of the most generous, giving, upbeat people I have ever met. He always had a story, a smile, a sparkle in his eye, and such energy! I love his saying " Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, enjoy today!" So true. He will be missed by many, but never forgotten.
