Chandra DHANVADA Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Chandra Sekhar Dhanvada, 52, passed away June 19, 2010, after a long courageous battle with muscular dystrophy.
Born in Bangalore, India, Chandra and his family moved to England before settling in the USA in 1970. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1976, attended Christopher Newport University, and received an associate's degree from Thomas Nelson Community College. He was a resident of Hampton for 16 years before moving to his home in Williamsburg. He was an avid tennis player in his youth, and a lifelong sports enthusiast. He worked at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for 14 years, where he enjoyed his job and made many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; and his daughter, Emily Preeti Dhanvada, both of Williamsburg; parents, Dr. Madhava Rao Dhanvada and Dr. Padmavati Dhanvada of Yorktown; brother, Ravi and his wife, Diana Dhanvada of Poquoson; in-laws, Fred and Mildred Smith of Williamsburg; brother-in-law, Bill Smith and his wife, Paula; sister-in-law, Judy and her husband, Randy Rogers; sister-in-law, Sheryl Smith; cousins, Rohit and Shannon Sirur; and a long list of extended family and friends.
A service will be held in Chandra's honor at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. A reception will follow the service.
The family would like to thank Dr. Shawke Soueidan and the medical staff of Williamsburg Neurology, as well as the medical and nursing staff of Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, for their excellent and compassionate care of Chandra.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Dhanvada family. I only knew Chandra and his loving family for a short period of time during his life.
