Peter FENTON Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Peter Godfrey Fenton, 73, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at home, surrounded by family, following a short fight against pancreatic cancer.
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Maria (Williams) Fenton; his daughters, Nancy Hoch of Hoboken, N.J., and Margaret (Maggie) Fenton Wires of Mine Hill, N.J., and their husbands, John and Kent; a sister, Patricia Turner of Ashburn, Va.; and a loving extended family.
Born in Bethlehem, Pa., Peter was a longtime resident of Madison, N.J., before abandoning the "too high taxes" and "too much snow" and moving to Williamsburg in 2001. He was a graduate of the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn., and Babson College. Peter built his early career in real estate sales and branch management, positions through which he built many lifelong friendships with clients, before moving into association management as the Executive Officer of the Morris County (NJ) Board of Realtors®, a role which he held for 18 years before retiring in 1999.
Raised by civically active parents, Peter served multiple terms on the boards of The United Way and The Madison Area YMCA. He was involved with many organizations and was a past president of the Madison Jaycees, the Maplewood (NJ) Men's Glee Club, and the Madison Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He and Maria also parented two Rotary Long-term Exchange daughters from Australia and New Zealand.
After relocating to Williamsburg, Peter became involved with the Christopher Wren Association, volunteered as a docent at the Jones-Stewart Mansion at Chippoke's Plantation State Park, served as treasurer of the Ford's Colony Model Railroad Club, worked as an Environmental Control Committee field inspector for Ford's Colony, joined the Rotary Club of the Historic Triangle, attended the Williamsburg Friday Men's Bible Breakfast, and worshipped at Williamsburg Community Chapel.
A visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 18, with funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at the Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Hwy, Williamsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dream Catchers at the Cori Sikich Therapeutic Riding Center, 10120 Fire Tower Road, Toano, VA 23168. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Maria - Peter shared a part of our lives when we first started dating back in 1956. We had some wonderful New Year's parties at his house. It is a shock to know that he is no longer with us. You have our heartfelt sympathy at your loss.

We greive with you at Peter's passing. We respected him for his honesty and profesionalism, admired him as a father, and liked him for who he was. May God be with you at this time of sorrow.
