Thomas HUNT Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Thomas Earl "Tommy" Hunt, 72, of Williamsburg, passed away on May 30, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Harold Hunt and Pauline Smoot Lawson; and by his granddaughter, Ann Marie Barker.
A successful businessman, Tommy was the owner and CEO of Lawson Enterprises, Inc. He was a past member of the Williamsburg Lions Club and the Exchange Club of Greater Williamsburg. He had been a longtime member of Williamsburg Baptist Church, and was currently attending Williamsburg Community Chapel.
Tommy was an outstanding natural athlete and excelled in every sport in which he participated. He especially enjoyed golf, and was a longtime member of The Golden Horseshoe and Traditions Golf Clubs. He played in the Pro-Am events of the Anheuser-Busch Golf Classic from 1986 through 1993. He was also an avid hunter and a member of the Bent Barrel Hunt Club. He loved spending time outdoors and especially at the beach.
Tommy was happiest when surrounded by his family, and especially loved watching his grandchildren participate in sports and all their other activities. He was a friend to everyone and never met a stranger. He made everyone feel special and always put others first. Tommy had a joyful, upbeat attitude towards life and always found something good in every person and in every situation.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Other survivors include their three children, Bonnie Hunt Barker and her husband, John, of Wake Forest, N.C., Allison Hunt Otey and her husband, Larry, of Williamsburg, Va., and Ryan Thomas Hunt and his wife, Amy, of Williamsburg, Va.; grandchildren, Trevor McKinley Otey, Thomas Blake Otey, Ashton Joy Otey, Carson Thomas Barker and Cameron Raye Barker. He also is survived by a sister, Julia Bogenreif, of Tallahassee, Fla. His family and many very dear and close friends are left to cherish his memory and continue his legacy.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Highway, Williamsburg. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

I was out of town this past week and I just found out I have lost my dear friend. Tommy was funny, he could mess up a joke and still leave you in tears. He was a tremendous athlete who could play anything. He was my tennis partner, we never lost. We shared a love for UNC and the Yankee's. I saw him recently at a middle school baseball game. We talked about family, I enjoyed my talks with my friend. I miss him !!

Tommy will always be a bright light in my life. He was a true Virginia gentleman. We played football together in highschool and worked one summer for AT%T. He always had a smile and I never heard him say anything negative about anyone. He will be truly missed. My heart goes out to you Linda and the entire family.

Bonnie, Allison and the entire Hunt family, I am deeply saddened by your loss. Tommy was one of the most down to earth good people that I have had the pleasure to have known. I will never forget our years playing softball. I considered him a mentor. For being a fierce competitor as a good athlete would be, Tommy also possessed a calm demeanor and good nature that made a lasting impression on those who were fortunate enough to have been around him. A fine man who will be surely missed.
