Carroll HUNTER Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - On Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News Va., our beloved Carroll entered into his eternal rest with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Carroll Thomas Hunter, the son of the late Thomas B. and Margaret Hunter, was born July 15, 1935, in Port Haywood, Mathews, Va. He graduated from the Thomas Hunter High School in Mathews, Va., in 1956, which bore the name of his grandfather. He also received a certificate of Special Programs Award in Accounting Essentials from the College of William and Mary on April 15, 1993.
Carroll joined the Wayland Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully for many years as Chairman of the Trustees, and was a member of the Wayland Baptist Church Choir.
After residing in Newport News, Va., for a number of years, he became a member of Rising Sun Baptist Church in Yorktown, Va. There he served diligently as an usher, member of the Men's Chorus, the travel ministry, and the scholarship committee.
Carroll and Audrey Lewis Hunter were joined in Holy Matrimony at Rising Valley Baptist Church in Gloucester, Va., on Jan. 27, 1963. From this union, they produced two sons, Carroll Thomas Jr. (Tommy) and Brian Keith. He was employed at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station for more than 20 years, and retired in 1991.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dora and Francis; and his brothers, Hubert, Hilton and Alvin; and his son, Brian.
Carroll is survived by his wife, Audrey; his son, Tommy; brother, Douglas (Faye) of Mathews, Va.; brother, Carroll (Sandra) of Williamsburg; sister-inlaw, Delores Hunter of Gloucester, Va.; brother-in-law, Bernard Lewis (Sarah) of Baltimore, Md.; and nephews, nieces, and a numerous host of relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Carroll will take place at the First United Baptist Church in Gloucester, Va., on Monday, June 21, at 11 a.m. He will be interred at the Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery in Gloucester, Va. A viewing will be held at Carter Funeral Home in Denbigh Chapel, 251 Richneck Road, Newport News, Va., on Sunday, June 20, from 7 to 8 p.m.
