Doris MURPHY Obituary
Born and raised in Newport News, she was the daughter of General P. and Lucinda Brown. She received her education from the Public School System, graduating from Huntington High School in 1951.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Murphy; parents; five brothers, General E. Brown, Homer P. Brown, Rufus L. Brown, Lawrence W. Brown and Oswald E. Brown; sisters, Julia Lorraine Smith and Leander Mines.
She is survived by sister, Justine J. Ryans; sisters-in-law, Fannie D. Brown, Jenever H. Brown, Idell R. Brown, Maxine Brown; niece, Paula Green, who was an essential caregiver in her daily life; a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family will have visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, VA 23666, on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
The family request expressions of sympathy in the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Special thanks to the staff of Ashwood Living Facility for their conscientious care of Mrs. Murphy.
