Dorothy YOUENS Obituary
A native of Los Angeles, Calif., she was a Newport News resident for 56 years. Mrs. Youens was a homemaker first, and later managed the Fireplace and Hot Tub Shop in Hampton, with her son. On her own in the later 50's, she set up a nursery school in Cambodia. She picked up the students herself in a '54 Ford station wagon, as well as being their teacher, with her daughter as one of the pupils.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 52 years, John P. Youens.
Survivors include one daughter, Laurabeth Youens of Newport News; five sons, John H. Youens and his wife, Evelyn of Hampton, Jeffrey D. Youens of West Springfield, Mass., Gregory R. Youens and his wife, Betty of Newport News, Douglas B. Youens and his wife, Constance of Murrieta, Calif., J. Randy Youens of Tampa Fla.; a niece, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Peninsula Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Gregory Youens. Graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 14, at Peninsula Memorial Park with the Rev. Michael Christensen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peninsula Rescue Mission, Newport News; or to the Peninsula S.P.C.A.
